  2. So, all you experienced people, reckon it's an ok buy? Rusting to panels, needs new interior pretty much, battery tray needs sorting...chassi allegedly ok...I don't get to officially meet the new addition to the family for 2 weeks due to other commitments...
    Advice if any?

  3. It'll be fine just budget an amount and triple it and work on a timescale and forget it.. part from that it's all worth it in the end lol ..

  8. Hi from outside East lancs! Did you do yourself or garage? Tricky at all?

    Is it really a Westy?

  10. I'm afraid I cheated and had a garage do it for me- amazing how much rot there was - a PO had just put a piece of metal on top of the rust so it looked OK from inside the engine bay - needed to replace the rear corner as well! Go to 81a VW on Facebook and see the photos.

Hello and Welcome from The Colonial Contingent :hattip:

  12. Bonjour ,since you asked ;)

It's a converted panel van ,rear windows have sticky out rubbers...(vw ran out of sticky in windows so dorma and viking etc had to cut them)

proper conversions had poptops ,just i guess it's a homebrew interior..

it all depends how much you paid ...;)

  13. Ah
Cheers, £4k, awaiting to pay in full at present...so thought I'd gauge advise from here...as to whether Im making a huge mistake...
I was hoping to stick interior in etc, but may be harder than thought. Did they ever come with an interior? I'm presuming not?

  14. I'm beginning to think no now

Have you got anymore pics of inside and underneath?
Westfalia were a camper conversion company approved by VW, if all you've got is a sink and cooker you're missing all the stuff that might be considered added value by it having been made by them.
What you appear to have is a converted tin top, panelvan project, without mire pics it's hard to say whether you've got value for money!

  16. Current prices for a tin top in very good condition are about 10k. Your resto has cost you 4k so far. If you do all the work yourself, metal, engine, paint, interior etc. then that would be good, but paying someone else to do it would probably not be economic.

Did you want a project van for a hobby?

  17. Cheers. Its seems to be that way doesn't it.
We've asked for more pictures from who were buying it from... And asked a few more questions...deposit paid. Turns out deposit has been returned and deleted the sale.... Very odd.

  18. We did want it as a hobby to do most work ourselves (classic mechanic friends)... but turns out they've returned our deposit after we've asked extra questions and for more pictures and a visit...and taken the sale down :/

    I wouldn't be too disheartened.
Buy a better one to start with; unless the attraction for you is 4 years stuck in a garage getting rust in your eyes....

    That one ^^^ wasn't a Westy.

    Oh, and don't buy unseen.
If you do, you've got about a 98% chance of being massively disappointed.
