    Hi,

I'm looking at replacing the exhaust on my 2l CJ Type 4 before the MOT in Febuary and I'm looking at a couple of options and I wonder if anyone had any opinions on the following products?

Firstly, my heating system is incomplete and I think I'd need to obtain new heat exchangers, risers at both ends, control boxes, cables, back box and so on at around £750ish to replace as stock (plus the possibility of a Propex or similar for camping), which I don't think is the correct option for me. Therefore I'm considering J tubes, 4 - 1 + silencer and a Propex at a later date to resolve the heating.

J Tubes seem to be in limited supply, but I think LA performance, Stateside Tuning (£165) or Turbo Thomas mild steel version are the financially viable option.

I like the simplicity of the Empi Single Quiet Pack from VW Heritage, http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Exhaust-SQP-T2-4-1-7-2-0-EMPI-Black-Tailpipe_act_shop.product_pID_138293_lang_EN_country_GB.htm?crumbPageToLoad=2 but I'm concerned it may rust out in a short space of time.

Other than that, I think the other 4 in 1 options (possibly stainless) appear to be from LAP, Stateside or TT.... anybody any experience in dealing with these guys at all? I'll send out a few enquireys about prices to these guys.

    Cheers Andy.

  2. i run a type 1 engine so not the same as yours but the exhaust is a ceramic bugpack one

i bought it second hand but the quality is very good and no signs of rusting out like the cheap single packs

  3. I've dealt with Turbo Thomas, and he was brilliant. Can only say good things about the stainless system I got from him.

No recommendations but I fitted new T4 HX's to a mates 2L about 3 years ago. They are rusted to tatters now and they weren't cheap. J tubes and eber/propex could be the way forward I think. You perhaps have the option of hacking the heat exchanger parts off your heat exchangers leaving just the exhaust part, or just leaving them as they are and changing the silencer.
