  6. think it was the carb, i have now fitted another one from a mates beetle, and it all seems a bit better. Just needs a proper time up and tuning now i think....

Mine was poppin back thru the carb when it got warm, but started perfect from cold, and revved and ran well, just as soon as u hold the revs when its warm, starts popping and choking itself......

  7. Did you buy a new carb in the end Rixy and if so which one did you go for?

  8. yes bud, i ended up with a pair of 34ict webers, which i have since rebuilt and fitted the correct sized jets, airs, emulsions and idles for my engine specs (according to all info i could find)

Also got a hex bar linkageg and manifolds, but its still not operating correctly, lol......

I dont like the linkage so i might get a bell crank if i can find one at vo wo :)

  9. Rixy, I was wondering what fuel pump you are using with your Weber 34ict? I have the same setup on my Type 4 2l and they are fed by a Hardi 13312 (2.18 psi), but I'm
a bit concerned that the pressure is a bit low for the Webers.

  10. i havent had mine running propely yet, been having major problems with it, though i think i've sussed it now, ha ha. I have however bought a low pressure facet eleccy pump, which will produce no more than 3.5 bar which apparently is ideal for the webers :)

  11. Had mine set up on a rolling road and it was running fine until I had some crud from the tank blocking the filter! I now seem to have it working again and had already bought a Facet as a backup, but will I need to get the carbs retuned if I change fuel pumps?
Do you need the 3.5 psi to properly run the Webers?

  12. I would've thought a stock fuel pump (up to say 3 - 4psi) would be fine. I'd doubt whether the float valves in any carb could seal against more than this: they'll just overflow.

  13. So you reckon my Hardi 13312 (2.18 psi) fuel pump is a little low in pressure for twin Weber 34ict?

Just bought Weber 32/36 kit from VW Heritage at Volksworld.
But as I didnt want to tune it up before Easter trip because will need some professional work, decided to change plugs, gaps , tappet adjust, check compression etc with Bocar 34PICT-3 p.o.s. already on bus.

Have re-bushed said 34PICT-3 using araldite to hold in ebay purchased brass bushes for proper 34PICT3 (Bocar use brass bushes on throttle spindle , others use plastic which are slightly smaller outside diameter) , cleaned and fitted refurbish kit, sorted sticky cold start cam etc.

Now of course it runs beautifully with the old carb.. But only between 19.5 and 20.5 mpg consumption.

En route carefully labelled ignition leads as removed but numbered in the wrong order .. Restart after fitting plugs, and the backfire blew a big hole in the very rusty twin quiet pack exhaust..

Goes better with a big hole in the exhaust ... or does it just sound louder ?

Have a nice new exhaust system waiting to fit this afternoon.

  16. im now going to be putting ine back together tomorrow and run it using the stock pump for now.......as i've since found out my problems werent pump related, and its easier to leave it be for the moment......

will keep hold of the facet for the 1914 i have planned :)

Weber ICT's are well known for NOT liking high fuel pressure, Most people find they have to limit it with a pressure regulator which will need setting to a low setting - possibly minimum.
