  1. new barrels and pistons on order :) mork popped up to have a look at em with me and we both wasn’t sure about how the barrel had ripples in it so to be safe and not sorry new on order

& I escaped being attacked by Barney too

  3. Keep hold of it dude as id like to have a look at these ripples one day dude

Im intrigued myself as to what they are?

Did you go bigger capacity on the barrels and pistons?

  4. no stock ones :( got to keep costs down

  5. I feel that pain dude

  6. it well enough before i ripped it apart it was just the smoking and it stinking that was the problem and now i am wishing id measured the pots before ordering ;)

Ripples doesn't sound good. Over-heating distortion?

  8. maybe all i know every problem i ve found the valve guide/oil leak/low compression /rippled pot have all been on pot 3 !

  9. See the words ripples doesent often appear in enginerring vocab

So when a lump of cast/machined metal gets descriped as rippled an engineers mind perks up

Ripples say to an engineer heat and pressure

Without being with your engine and looking and feeling i cant advise you correctly lowie
And its type 4 which if not had much dealings with

Since its this far apart arent you tempted to split the case and see how the bottom end is?

If your proper skint then decoke the top of the pistons fit a new seet of rings and put it all back together with an oil change
Your smoking problem culprit was most likely that knacked valve guide

    Agreed Para - smoke/valve guide.

    Any ripple pics?

  11. no pics i am afraid there not massive ripples to be fair and me and mork both thought new rings maybe would of fixed it
but new barrels and pistons will hopefully

  12. what size can you go up to on an 18 or a 2 litre if its otherwise standard?

The ripples wouldn't be obvious in pics Zed, they would show up if you did a profilometry check of the bores (we could get them done via work but hats be £250 for the day rate) they are easy to feel however and although obvious they aren't too deep!

Para the bottom end is sound & has no end float and on a plus note it ran bloody well even though it smoked! It would go as well as our 2.0 Westy all bar the smoking!

  14. Would a bore micrometer (with the ball ends) not show it. But then again if its there-its there!

Didn't the 1800 motor have a bit better spec than the 2.0, Ste's heads have 41mm inlet/34mm exhaust valves which are a bit better than mine. Is this why it goes well?

Yep profilometry inspection, we have test samples done regularly at AMRC Boeing in Sheffield :)

  17. prof-wasnames a big word!

  18. yeah but he aint got a clue what it means he heard on strar trek ;)
