My bays

  1. After having beetles for 25 years, I decided when my twins came along, that a bay would be more practical.
Found a crew cab for sale, went looking at it, fell in love and bought it. 2006. used it as a camper for 2 years ,slept on the bed. Then I read a story on vwbus.no about 3 guys driving all over Norway making a movie of norways oil history, in a fantastic looking blue tintop. And one late night i found the same bay for sale, rung the seller, and bought it over the phone. Blueboy was mine :)
Crew cab was now used only in the autumn during moose hunting season, hauling moose from forest to the butcher, and blueboy only summertime for camping.
2008, SCC was closing up, and I decided I wanted to race, since the crew cab was the less used one, me and my brother tryed to turn it into a racecar, had a 2,6L. engine made, and signed up in the bus class.
Did 11 runs with it by 3 different drivers,me, brother and a friend who wanted to have a go. Took blueboy out for a spin aswell. Result, won the bus class with a 15,92 run, and blueboy did a 17,62. USB had there first norwegian member :)
Later the same year I came across another blue tintop, a 2 seater, all empty in the back, low milage 37k on the meter, realy cheap, did'nt need it, but under the influence of a good scotch, it ended up as mine.
2009.During the summer we where at several vw events and hollidays with blueboy, while the crew cab and the 73 just sat in the garage. Was now hooked on racing, so my engine builder was putting together a new motor for Losen(crewcabs name) but about a month before the SCC, he said that he could not have it ready :( problems with making room for the 86mm crank in the case, wtf !! I was mad and disappointed and said no way I'll go to scc without something to race with, so hi put a 2,4l together that we installed in the 73 tintop .A poor replacement, but I drove the hell out of it and manage a 15,91 :) Hunting season that year blueboy was sold, did not know i sold it before the day after, we where superdrunk cause to a celebration after we shot a big big moose, only guy with no hangover was the new owner :)
2010. April, Losen was now raceready with new 2,9l. engine, so we went to Big Bang to see our uk friends and raced Losen. Did ok,well sort of, set a new PB 14,73 but the flywheel on Losen fell of at the last run :(
Rebult it, but could not get of the burning plate at scc, same thing happened again.
2011. Now my 73 is my new camper, had an interior made up in uk by Campershak and Losen is after 3. rebuild, tuned at rolling road again race ready. New case, crank, bigger carbs, more comp, new cam, etc.
And by now, It's only 8 days before It's rocking roll time at SCC again,,wish me luck :)
