My 79 scooby powered camper!

  1. Hey guys,

Heres some pics on my camper

Ive done a home build conversion using a donor car and parts from TSR racing and its seriously such an awesome conversion even if you don't want a race car just for the reliability and being able to just move in traffic like a modern car!

I live in Milton Keynes so its dual carriageway and round abouts so the air cooled wasn't quite man enough to build up the speed after round abouts so constantly got over taken! But now! Acceleration and top end is so good!

  2. Looking good, the ability to keep up is one of the things we miss in out '73. Must be going to tuck in some more cupboards next to the bed?
Carpet on the toes would be nice as well.

Some interesting bodywork, I like it

  4. nice we have a modified section ,

do you not need a scoop on the rad ..?

  5. Thanks guys!
And yeah i plan to get a full kitchen and cupboard set up along the side :)

The paint is sorta rat style it was fully raw when i got it but added a bit of paint to the bottom just to make it look bit neater!

And the rad has twin fans on the top that suck cold air through and it seems sit happy at 90-100 degress in traffic and driving so not has the need for anything else yet!

  10. Cheers unfortunately don't have any rc cars left at the moment! Hoping to get another large scale off roader again soon now got the van plenty of space for toys!

And mk is brilliant for racing people no one expects a camper to take them between and even through the round Abouts that takes some bravery though lol

Art B you wont regret it! What parts are you using for the conversion to mount the engine to box?

I'd add a scoop even if it was just to give the rad some protection...

  12. The only thing i thought about adding a scoop is it would be lower to the ground and more likely to hit speed bumps and road kill ive not ruled it out though will probably make something for it

  13. Have you got any engine bay pics?

  14. ive bought a 5 rib box that is being adapted, ideally a rjes bell housing , but i will see what comes up next year,
ive got plenty to keep me busy on the bus over winter ..

  15. Sounds good! I personally wouldn't go for the rjes adaptor as heard some bad things about them but no doubt same about any other conversion way!

And will upload some more pictures soon

  16. I was planning on using the Rjes bell housing as well.. It's upstairs in the spare bedroom. What bad things have you heard?

Did you weld that sump? Nice job if you did

  17. I thought the rjes bell housing was the best ,
as you can use the Scooby clutch, flywheel and starter..

  18. Ive just heard about them cracking and spewing all the gearbox grease everywhere as its hard to match the old school tolerance set by vw and rjes talk about running issues from the adaptor plate but a vw flywheel just means lighter so faster acceleration!
