Wattage would be good to know but going on size of the roof rack it's probably either 50 or 100 watts max. They all output 18-20 volts nominal so a charge controller is needed to bring it down and also do the actual charging function

 

Is the charge controller just a voltage regulator or is it a battery charge state unit too ? Does it regulate input to the battery as needed, I assume it must otherwise the battery would go Pop
