About the van

2.0l Air-cooled Type 4 engine, the last of the air-cooled and arguably the most reliable VW aircooled engine produced. These are true workhorses and with a small amount of knowledge they just keep on going.

This van has been restored inside and out, and the underside.

The van took 3 years to restore and was finally back on the road last summer. Had two lovely trips to see Justin Bieber in Cardiff with my daughter and then to Barmouth. Van went well and we were both looking forward to a full year camping in the van this year...however, i have made an offer on a new house which has been excepted so the van has to go! Its been used 3 times since the restoration which is clear by its unused condition. The interior has been kept as original as possible with minor repairs where needed. All the seating were professionally recovered in Beige corduroy (new foam also) and are of very high quality finish. 12 Months MOT added with no advisories on the 14.06.18 runs out in June 2019

Bodywork

Van was stripped to the bare chassis to start the restoration.

New body panels - Front Lower Panel / Side Bottom Panel / Rear left panel / Sliding door track cover
New plates welded in both footwells with original rubber matt holes restored.
Main Window Frames re-fabricated
Door window frames re-fabricatedAny rot was cutout where needed and patched with replacement metal before the spray shop
Original Wheels Sandblasted and Powder Coated in Mercedes SilverBody colour was resprayed with modern basecoat paint at Richard Wrights Repair Centre in Stafford. Painted in Original VW Colour 'Timor Beige' and lacquered with UPOL 2k paint. Roof was painted in Original VW Pastel White.

Other information

1. Couple of small blemishes starting to show, one by the gas tank switch cover and a tiny one on bottom of passenger door, about the size of a raisin but nothing that effects lovely finish of this van. These could be touched up by a shop for not much money.


Sliding door double glazed window was plastic welded as these windows are rare and very expensive to replace it had a crack from the bottom edge about a third up the glass, its done the job and will last, it was definatley worth keeping the double glazed winows as these stop any of the aweful condensation that runs inside older vans and single glazed vans, naturally they also keep the heat in far better.
