  7. You work on so many vehicles at techenders it could be anywhere.
Hopefully it will turn up at the next one.
I lost my grandads pliers at a techenders, but managed to track them down and get them back!

Nah, you can't fob me off that easily ..... (I guess neither of us has work to do ... or a responsible attitude to doing it!)

  11. I jacked in working at the VW garage against my better judgement (I loved it there!) because I was only being paid peanuts but doing all the work. I dragged that business into the 21st century, got the boss doing everything in-house & actually built him a spray booth so we could paint (which he filled with old vehicles the moment it was finished). My boss was/is earning a fortune but I saw none of the benefit! It's ok, I've got it covered ;)
(you are correct in your assumption though)

I can't make my mind up whether I prefer fixing people or making things.
Looks like I'll he doing both, part time, indefinitely. It's a solution of sorts.
You got stitched up then :)

  14. The bloke became a first class arse'ole, always chasing the money! Always underestimating time needed to complete a job, 4 or 5 projects (all 10k+ a pop) going at once, so I was welding one day, engine work or mechanics another, stripping vans or bodywork for a couple of days then maybe a replacement poptop would come in or he'd have me on building interiors or prepping for paint. I had to travel 45 minutes each way too costing me £50 a week in petrol & I was only getting £200!! It became ridiculous I just had to draw a veil over it. ;)
I don't know what I'm going to do, there's not much around for a 50+ bloke these days. Especially a place that would accomodate my dog.... thinking about it I had it good apart from the pay :(. I will probably continue to churn out quality seat covers, bed cushions & door cards (see my threads) etc but I can't give them away at the moment! Ce la Vie!

Maybe the exchange rates will mean a new and more buoyant market in what's left of Europe?
and "Diversification" seems to be the name of the game ...... Don't get cut up about it

  16. It saddens me to say I don't hold out much hope for our political & ecconomic future, too much in fighting, not enough clarity or real direction. I can't see any party digging us out of the hole we put ourselves in. Everyone is bored with brexit & we are concentrating on it too much...... There are far greater & graver issues closer to home but no-one seems to care. It has become a time of 'look out for No 1', markets are shrinking but everybody wants a massive slice of the pie.... no room for the little guy! Also the little guy is not trusted, people want to go to shows in their bus & say "I got my interior done by Bromsgrove." (not "by some guy on a forum I use") & everyone says "Wow, that's fantastic" which I understand, I do...... just leaves little room for us, who are also in the marketplace!
I am drowning in coffee & smoking myself half to death so..................
Let's wrap this up before I burst at the seams!

Generally agree ... was thinking that advertising on the Europe-wide sites might bring in some more business, particularly if the £ goes down relative to the Euro.
All punned out here so ...
time to rock and roll! :hattip:

Better check out the story first though.
Doesn't bode well for any future relationship!
I tend to have to have a "name" before I can think straight about an idea ...
    Latest one is
