  1. ... does the panel gave any recommendations?

As mooch as this hurts in the wallet area, I need a new one and miss having one to play with  I don't get out much these days, you know.

    Thanks.

  2. Yes.. Go with a normal ratchet.
When tightening each knuckle which goes white under pressure represents 20N.M
Therefore with both hands you can achieve 160N.M as thumbs don't count.

Knuckle brand aside  , I need a torque wrench as well. Having got away without owning one for nearly three score years I have no scooby do about what brand to buy and don't even mention length to me... actually could you mention length as well:p. Thanks

I got myself a reasonable Teng tools one recently. Kind of one better than the really cheapy ones that start at 20ft/lbs. 3/8 15-75ft/lbs

  5. I think personally I would want something with lifetime guarantee I. E halfords etc. Their socket sets are excellent and I've never had any issue for exchanges when I broke bits... Can't comment on other brands.

    Yes that's the one 3892AG-E3.
It's about 4-5-6" longer than the sealey type equivalent which I presumed would make it a bit more accurate.

There is always Snap On ..ouch a digital one ..ouch ouch again . but probably the best.
They say t wrenches should be calibrated after so many years ...i know some garages do as a safeguard.
Always wind the back to Zero after use as it can damage the accuracy ...apparently .

The Halfords ones I thought looked good but for the amount I use it I didn't want to pay their price.

  11. Yes common practice is to wind them back. We do after every use unless our procedures state not to.. We did prove this affected our snap on wrenches in work.

We calibrate ours before each use on aircraft. They are always out slightly.

At the price point that I go in at it's probably cheaper to chuck and replace now and then... that's exactly why I replaced mine just before I retorqued my heads.

You can calibrate them yourself with a vice and dangling weights, it's not rocket science...but I don't have a vice or the weights...

  14. ..just to offshoot.. did anyone see the Guy Matrin... fastest tractor one.. £20k torque wrench..

..it did come with a computer that tells you which nut to do, set it, record it was done and tell you where to go next!

I've also got a F off big one (it was cheap from someone giving up in a temper), but it never really finds a use. Likewise the smaller one so I don't have one of those.

  16. For big ones (hub nuts) I go weigh myself in the bathroom and mark the bar with a bit of tape as to where I should stand on it..

  17. I do that with hub nuts, long pipe on the end of the breaker bar and stand on the end.

You must be a hyper lightweight? I'm a skinny git and the handle of a breaker bar is bob on. Then I hop on it a bit round to the next slot.
