Meet Stig - Noah's New Playmate

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by burntout, Mar 4, 2012.

  1. So as some of you have probably guessed from our threads this weekend, we have a playmate for Noah, which arrived this afternoon.

Some would say we are totally glutton for punishment, some would say we are totally mad and bonkers, and others would say both or yeah I would of, and I am sure if you were stood where we were it would of been the latter.

    So here it is:

Safely at its new home ready for some well deserved TLC.

This bus has been sat on a driveway for over ten years after having a new engine fitted. We are not sure why, however it would seem that you are unable to get first gear so this may have something to do with it.

Now it was home it meant we could have a proper look at it, and remove all the rubbish it had accumalated over the years. It would seem that we have an Original, Unmolested Tax Exempt Westfalia Continental.

Its going to want some bodywork (lots of) which was to be expected, but it did start up with some fresh petrol in it and we got to drive it onto the recovery vehicle despite the brakes binding on. Which also meant we got to drive it over its new threshold! :D But in second gear! :arrggh:

Recon vege 2.0 litre engine fitted ten year ago, which has done less than 500 miles.

Pretty sure the westies didn't have their cookers here, only the dormobiles, so guessing its one change that its had done.

Other than that all looks pretty original and fortunately the mice made their home in some stored rags in it rather than the upholstery.

We have even found a fly screen for the rear hatch and some original curtains, but not a complete set :(

Will keep you posted as we go!

Great find. :) How much £'s if it's not a cheeky question?

  3. Looks like poptops bus when he got it

Want me to pop round and check it over for you >:D

  4. Just had a poke together :p

  5. With that cooker next to the drivers seat would it be possible to make cheese on toast whilst negotiating a tricky Cornish lane

  6. Around Stig of course

For Mot purposes looks like it will need: Both Cab steps, OSF Outrigger, OS Inner and Outer Sill and Centre Section, Hole in front panel repairing (more to keep the water out than for the MOT), Brakes, Windscreen Washer, Fix Rear Number Plate on, Windscreen Wipers, Tyres, and small repair panel for front of rear arch.

Oh and we've found first gear :), it just isn't where it should be, but then we found the shift plate from under the gear stick in the back, so that could explain it!

Hopefully with the work above done, and a good service and the timing sorted we should be on the road, but think its wishful thinking for that to be the case, we all know what happens with thoughts like that! ::)

I say it needs a damn good clean inside and out, he says leave it with moss on!

Will probably get Stig tested and rolling, then get Noah restored, and then Stig can have the rest of his six inches and front panel done. Will see how it all goes! Some busy and interesting times ahead! :)

You want me to guess? ok. Blah westy blah tax exempt blah - I guess £1500, though I expect you paid £2000. How long's a piece of string? Looks better than what people regularly pay £6k for only to discover the rot later...

  16. Had a thought today Poptop, if we paint ours yellow, does that mean we can be rhubarb and custard? ;)
