    Its going to become law.

All they need is to apply enough rules that the number of people falling ill is constant. So masks save a few people even if not everybody wears them.

Local lock downs .. which will also tend to be in poorer multi-occupancy areas or in minimum wage factories..

    Contact tracing if effective.

  5. I believe to be properly effective you should use a clean/new mask every time you put one on, otherwise you are touching a mask impregnated with your breath/moisture droplets and then you have "dirty" hands. My wife has to wear a new one every time she leaves her office in the hospital so they try to combine time out of the office to use the minimum number of masks in a day. It will be interesting to see how people use them when shopping I would imagine they will take them down everytime they come out of a shop and put up going into the next thus contaminating their hands but they will feel good about themselves obeying the guidance.

I agree. It's all about image these days.
Doesn't make any difference to me, it's easier to simply avoid any enclosed spaces with people in them. I have crew to go in shops.

  7. To become law it has to be enforcable , which is where things have gone awry over the last few months .

Forrin parts ENFORCED mask wearing and restricted travel using the police and army . This worked .

This country couldn`t go that far because the police manpower isn`t there and good old Boris didn`t have the balls to put the army on the streets and enforce his "recommendations" , not "law" , not even "rules" , we were ASKED to stay at home and wear a mask when outside , which went well for a while until the knobs decided to do whatever they wanted .

    I`ll wear a mask when i go shopping twice a week , don`t have a problem with that .

What gets my goat is constantly changing the goalposts to suit whatever is flavour of the week and their inability to implement said "recommendations" .
Example (if any were needed...) .
We all have to wear a "face covering" when shopping but not until next Friday . This was made a `rule` last week so we have 2 weeks - yes - 2 weeks where its not compulsory . It`s a face covering , not a mask so there`s no issues with availability as a scarf will do , so why wait 2 F-in weeks ??

  15. I know , i know ...
It just annoys me that with proper leadership and a tough policy we could be further on than we already are , you`ve only got to look across the channel to see what works and our govenment clearly made , and still are making stupid ineffectual policies ..

Rant over - i`ll stay out of it

My understanding is the mask thing had been brought in because the government wants us to shop and that a disproportionate numbers of shop workers were getting the virus and being killed by it.

also those masks with the one way valves are no good as they only protect the user from stuff going in and not out.

I hate shops and shopping so i will still only be going when necessary and I will have a mask on as I have been asked to and it’s no real hardship.

  20. There is no reason to not wear a mask and gloves!
They won’t kill anyone, but they might save someone from dying. It’s that simple.
Any protective barrier is better than none. The thing is they have to be changed and cleaned very regularly, or they become pointless.
Anything anti-bacterial is also rather pointless...however, when the symptoms of Covid are so vast, preventing picking up any form of virus and/or infection is a good thing - or another 30% (random figure) will be turning up for diagnosis and inadvertently exposing themselves

I have worn a mask and gloves since before Lockdown. I am my mum’s only carer and she is classified “at risk”.
My brother is in charge of Ventilator allocation at his hospital in Singapore...he said even microwaving gloves and masks wouldn’t kill a virulent virus. However, if exposure to potential infection is minimised (social distancing, staying at home unless necessary to leave) then at least the spread can be more easily managed.

The government have an unenviable task of risking either the economy or lives. That said, they have ballsed it up to being almost blatant incompetency! To not make it a legal requirement that anyone working in a public space has to wear gloves and a mask is beyond ridiculous; when they are exposed all day and exposing to others if they have it. Since they are not protecting you, you must protect yourself, and therefore others.

The worst things about this virus are that, apparently:
    • 80% are asymptotic, so could be spreading in complete ignorance
    • Those with poor immune systems (elderly, less fortunate folk, genetic predisposition, cancer suffers etc) will very likely die...that, accumulated, is a large population the NHS cannot handle
    • No current perfected treatment or prevention
    • None of our survival senses can detect it

The government ‘cooked the books’ in terms of statistics as a means of controlling the public rather than using the police or army - that fear mothering strategy is now backfiring.
They wasted millions of pounds and resources on the Nightingale Field Hospitals which could have (should have) made a huge difference at earlier stages for the rest of the NHS...and public.

They have crunched numbers and now decided that the death toll, with measures in place like masks and social distancing, is acceptable compared to the collapse of the economy and the ‘way of life’ (plus potential ramifications of continued total Lockdown).
Since they fudged all the figures in the first place they know that this risk assessment works in their favour.

For us, i’d say, wear a mask & gloves, sanitise regularly and minimise you’re exposure to others until the full truth comes out - this won’t ruin your life but it might save it and others.
