Just thought I'd add a pic or 2 of my bus 'as yet with no name' i'll bring it up to date as I go, its not exactly a restoration, just making a van that didn't go, go She's a 74' Cali import that I got from Karmann Konnections bargain bucket I went to KK after seeing the ad on ebay, she was listed as having a seized engine and a seized sunroof, but when she rolled off the back of the low loader, i got the engine turning over with a turn of the key and the sunroof open with a bit of brute force and ignorance. This is how she stands at the moment: Now I know shes not pretty, but shes road legal and relativley rust free, the only rusty bits are under the windscreen, one rear wheel arch rear lower, and the battery tray. these bits I'll tend to as when i can.
Thanks holmsen, its quite faded, but i also like the original colour. I had a rattle can made up so i could tart up the engine bay, whilst the fuel tank was out! Mork, I'm really hoping to get there! I've litterally just come in from putting the curtain tracks up in the back, my main concern at the moment is the carbs, they have been a pain in the preverbial since i fitted them, i'm tempted to go buy a cheap single webber to put on it just so as its one less thing worry about!
If you do go for a "cheap" single weber, I would avoid buying one of those Empi - (weber copies) as quite a few people had had set up problems. I have one at work to put on Gusbus, until I get it fitted up, I cant comment on their performance. Hope you do get sorted though!
Looks better than the pig mate!! ;D Ours is a non resto just keep the MOT man off our back bus and we love it. We have just made it to lands end and back and from where we are that is a hell of a long way... (and we were the furthest travelled to summercamp to boot!! Somthing you would expect a sticker for for sure!! ) We could start a tlb group for keeping vans that didnt go going!! Even if you dont get it to RTTH come in a tent and have a look at the PIG! It will make you realise you havnt got it that bad at all!! And its a right good weekend!!
Trev, Your right we need a Raggedy but Rollin' group, i'm really hoping the van will get us there, its running and doesn't sound too bad, but i've got or at least had, petrol getting into the oil, i've looked at the carbs and cant see how/where its doing it.
looking good bet you're dying to get out in it, i guarantee your drive to 1st camp will make you smile bigtime
from what I recall of the old thread, the inside was starting to look good...whats wrong with giving the outside a good t cut and wax polish or summ at, just to neaten him up? Main thing, its MOT'd!
