Mine looks exactly like your before photos. I’d love to do the same one day. Remove, clean and repair as necessary. Nice job.
Got a bit more done on Major this past couple of weeks, this time the coolbox unit. Overall, this part was in excellent condition, the laminate on the main unit was very good, a little scuffing but that will be hidden. The steel frame on top has been repainted in Satin Black as has the small grill, the side laminate has been gently scrubbed with a mild cleaning fluid followed by bee's wax polish. The screws holding the frame down have been renewed and the wood screws holding the coolbox to the wardrobe have been replaced with cap head bolts as the screws wouldn't bit into the wood. The inside of the left hand storage bit has seen the old varnish sanded back & revarnished nice again. The two lids have had the cracked / damaged laminate removed, sanded back and varnished and the rubber edge trim replaced with new and the hold down straps / presstuds replaced. I wasn't sure on the lids to start with but the varnish is showing up the colour of the woods really well so, for now, I'll leave them until the main unit is finished and refitted
Had a productive couple of weeks after the holiday. Got the bed base unit cleaned up nicely, old varnish replaced with fresh, the laminate cleaned up and bee's waxed and loosely fitted Fitted up exactly as expected! When we moved house, Carpet Right gave us a 3m square roll of rattan style carpet, FOC ideal for Major! Got it cut to shape based on the old green one and popped inside, replaced the white plastic moulding and put a new threshold trim down. There was more than enough for the walkthrough too, just needs fastening down up front Starting to look nice
It will be nice to sit/sleep in there knowing that every nook and cranny, seen or unseen, is minty clean and fresh. I found a dead mouse under my fridge when I first got the bus home.
I want overly keen on it before I fit it but now, it looks good and if we can get the upholstery to tie in, even better!
I thought it looks similar to to the mad Matz sisal front mats we have fitted and probably a lot cheaper than the MM version!
Just read this from start to “finish”. Really good work. Inspiring me to get under my bus and sort out the arches and chassis with your process. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Blimey it's been a while since I last updated Majors thread. On the face of it, little appears to have been done (camping, Rhodes & work) but I have now finished off the kitchen unit with new shelves, new worktop, the doors have been delaminated and the unit refitted. I'm not sure whether to delaminate the drawer fronts and match them to the doors or leave as is But, come spring 2020, Major will become a WestyRu as Matt is going to carry out the Subaru conversion for me..I'm looking forward to having it done
