M PLATE DECODER HERE... Now working again

Discussion in 'How To' started by Poptop2, Apr 6, 2014.

  1. So I used the decoder on alltheprettybusses.com and that mostly worked giving a production date of February 7th 1973 which is earlier than I thought. What with the dvla wanting £225 this month is this a tax free possibility? I hadn't thought if it before!

Possibly if you can prove it with a birth certificate!

  3. I shall look into it! Thank you for your help

From the date though it does explain, as we discussed on your cross over topic, why my bus is composed of all sort of odd early and late bits!

Yep. seems like a proper 73 model year bus Aug 72 - July 73. good luck with the birth certificate.

  5. My South African M-Plate is almost the same. Hard to decode on most of the templates. I can get bits of info that are correct.

  8. All I've done with mine so far is 9 seater kombi, white roof, 1800 engine, brown interior and may have had special electrical equipment. No Dates yet. Just keep putting the numbers in the boxed on T2 decoder. The allthepettybuses one doesn't work for us. There is a Vin dating site that also doesn't work for us. Sorry I can't be of any use. I have sent the Automuseum a picture of ours to see if they can work it out.

I have tried but can't get that number accepted. are you sure it is the m plate. It should be behind the passenger seat.

  14. Thanks for trying. Yes it was the one behind the seat :)

  17. So finally got my vw birth certificate showing made in February 1973, I have the DVLA info so do I have to send the, the original certificate? There are no local offices and I don't fancy a trip to Swansea!

  18. I have a slight problem, my bus was 1st registered in March 1974, but a previous owner before me has removed the passenger seat back and fitted a swivel seat, how else can I find all the info that was on the M plate? I've looked all over and cannot find one anywhere else!!

There was only one M plate so if that has gone you can either - A - post pics up in a seperte thread and we will tell what we can about it. B - try and decode the VIN plate on the drivers door. Which will gie you a basic engine chassis make date type.

You guys need to send in your V5 filling in the change of taxation class bit. and providing evidence, which you seem to have.
