  1. think of lowering my bus just a tad nothing silly , don t want the hugh ride high i have know look so silly , so was dropping the back 2 splines and adjusters on front , then 15" x 5.5 with 185 65 15 tyres

    has anyone got this set up and could you post some pics so i can see what it looks like before i commit myself
     
  2. What your talking about is very low 2splines and 65 profile tyres.

    It all depends on if you mind about ride comfort?

    And it will cost. Beam adjuster £100+ Dropped spindles £500+ Adjustable springplates £250+

    2 spline drop level with the front will be harsh whatever you do. without drop spindles it will be horrible. you will have to notch your spring plates or get adjustable plates. Without adjustable spring plates you will struggle getting your wheels off.

    A two spline drop will also eat your rear tyers. There is know way of getting round this.

    With a one spline drop you dont need adjusters , adjustable spring plates or dropped spindles.

    This is my bus its 4''narrowed beam dropped spindles with a 1 spline drop at the back. It in the shop at the moment going lower :)

  3. i want to go back to standard height .....but havent a clue how fish lowered the fishtank ....ill have to take a look ...id swop bits with you mate ....peace out
     
  4. so if i drop the back one spline could i get away with adjusters on the front beam

    what size wheel/tyres are you running on that
     
  5. 55 front 65 rear. And yes you could just do a cut and turn and not bother with adjusters on a one spline drop

    Here is Gladys is is down 2 spline2 on the rear running 205 x 55 x 15 tyres - the front is on 195 x 40 x 15 tyres
    Plans are to go lower yet and a narrowed beam no bothered about the ride it will be like a go kart -
    The choice is yours if its an every day user then 1 spline or boomerang plates and beam adjuster will be enough try and come down in the tyre profile not silly like mine maybe to a 55 profile that way you have a little give

  8. so if i dropped it 1 spline on rear and adjusters on front beam could i get away with a 60 profile tyre all round or shoulsd i opt for bigger profile on rear

    this is a daily driver (except when its snowing :)) :)) )

    195/65 15 back, 185/65 15 front.

  10. If it was mine as a daily user - i would run 50 profile on the front and 55 on the rear and the settings as you described
    It will be stiffer than stock

    Low is the new High

  14. A year ago I was asking the same questions and went this route! ::)

    Cut and turn beam with adjusters and adjustable spring plates at the rear. I wanted a 1 spline drop but my spring plates wernt really that good so i replaced and went the adjuster route! ;)

    What i will say and now Im going to type it I remember people on here telling me.. :-[ it does change the bus. You will feel it works better in the corners it feels more planted :) It does go faster (honestly!!) or is that because you are closer to the floor?? ::) You will look cooler and find yourself looking in every shop window with a grin ;D ;D And you dont wallow around on motorways making everyone feel like they are on a boat! ;) ;)



    HOWEVER!!! :eek: By god every bump pushes your spine right up through your mouth! you carnt follow your mates across a camp field because you are looking for the non grounding way to the same point! AND!!!!!speed bumps become something you really really hate. :mad:

    And this is the big thing for me!!! each and every trip out when we go Whooomp!! Shell looks across and goes "It didnt do that before you lowered it!!" ::) ::)

    Your choice but if I was you i would go Outlaws way and stick it to the floor!!! :) :) Just be cool and deal with the rest!! ;) ;)
     
  15. Lobie I've had mine dropped 1 spline on the rear and adjusters on the front. 185,65,15's all round. It's my daily drive, handles much better than stock with a good level of comfort.

    How much are you willing to spend lobie, there is also the Transporterhaus route to lowering or their is the Red9 design kit as well...worth a thought?

    Here's 1 spline (55mm), turned beam (approx 70mm), standard wheels and tyres, gas shocks. Never rubbed, never hit the ground anywhere, cornered and drove better.

    If you put smaller tyres on the back the engine will rev higher when you're cruising.
    If you go dropped spindles, the front will come down 90mm and you will HAVE to put smaller tyres on it. I went for 195 60's
    To keep the standard size tyres on the back for cruising will make it rake - 2 splines will level it but as said above you won't get your wheels off. Didn't stop me though. I haven't had a flat while driving ever so don't see why I should worry.

    This is with 195 65's on the back and 1 spline.

    I thought it made the back wheels look smaller than the front even though they're a bit bigger, so I got standard sized ones and it went too nose down.

    So then, wanting to keep the big tyres on the back I went for 2 splines. No notching of chassis or spring plates - there's a better way. ;)

    This is empty. I'm building some furniture into it which is fairly heavy ply, but then I want it a little lower and don't give a monkey's how "harsh" the ride is. My standard golf has virtually no suspension travel, harsh ride really but it's still comfortable and relaxing. It has tint ground clearance but I've driven it across fields and down farm tracks without a bother. I drive loads of buses from day to day and they all differ in ride harshness even the full height ones. I reckon it's more simple - the heavier you can make it, the smoother the ride.

    Also I haven't got crazy rear camber and I can't see the tyres wearing much more quickly.
     
  18. All the best bits from Type 2 Detectives, king and linkpin 4 inch narrowed beam with all the ancillaries (dropped spindles, slam shocks etc etc), adjustable spring plates out back, chassis notched and tubbed accordingly, very expensive.

    The most annoying (and minor thing) is that some thread issues have curtailed the fitment of the rear bumper avec over-riders, grrr!

    Bus currently sits at its 'highest settings all round. :)
