Very hard to see on a phone, can you post the pictures? Half gets chopped off the way you're posting them but clearly water has got in one side, I bet you're glad you took it apart with all that crud in there.
My ruddy laptop has spat out it's dummy or I could get a better look. Won't charge, won't run on the charger only which it should, I've replaced the socket, still no dice which only leaves the motherboard. Gahh!
Cool I stripped all 4 cylinders now and 3 and 4 were where the low readings were at comp test and 4 had a ring stuck full of gunk and both 3 and 4 need the valves ground and seated so I’ll go down that route seat the valves then reassemble for compression test before spending any money on it if the test is good I’ll get all new gaskets push rod tubes and seals etc and get it going is this the right approach???
Sounds good to me. You've found the cause(s) and you're fixing them. I'd do the same, it's daft to replace things for the sake of it.
How bad are the seats and valve stem ends? Don't expect miracles grinding it the seats are bad or the valves out of shape. Test the seal after by filling the combustion chambers with brake cleaner or similar and leaving them a while. One part it might pay to replace is the exhaust valves on both heads while in pieces.
Is that 4 exhaust valves 9mm shaft 32mm long ? What’s the logic behind changing them? Would the existing ones do just to do the compression test ?
I tried the head on 1&2 yesterday with diesel absolutely no leakage then tried 3&4 today and it peed out of the exhaust valve
The exhaust valves take a hammering hence the need for closer inspection . One of the many things you`ll need a bit of basic experience for to determin the condition and if they`re sealing properly . Pictures help but there nothing like a hands on close up examination ..
Are the ends of the exhaust valve stems flat as they should be, or dished? Unless they are flat I'd bin them.
There’s no sign of dishing at all so I’m going to grind and reseat the valves and hone the barrels clean everything up put it back together and see what compression I get then if the compression is good I’ll get it running and put it on a shelf for the future
Hi Zedders that’s me moved on a bit and got the valves out of one head now that I’ve cracked how to use the valve spring tool lol What I’ve found is the “ports” round the valve guides are full of crud so I’m looking for advice on how best to clean the heads before I grind and seat the valves My thoughts are brake cleaner / degreaser and pressure wash then considering putting the heads in the dish washer lol it’s been fitted over two years and I’ve never used it so thought maybe it’d make a good parts cleaner lol I’ve attached a couple of photos showing the heads and the crud the other thing I found was one of the valves has a plastic ring on it when I went to take it out (see photo) no idea what it is or why only on one valve?? HELP LOL
Looks like the guides need replacing, one of them has pieces missing? How you'd best tackle all the crud it the ports I'm sure you can scrape it out.
