Executive summary : colour match = hard work for Pastel and Lotus White..

    Workshop Bulletin March 1971
    SERVICE Type/Model: 2
Subject: Color deviation when respraying light pastel colors

Complaints have been received of color deviations on fairly new vehicles which have been resprayed.
The colors mainly cocerned are the very light pastel standard colors such as
    L 90 D- pastel white
    L 282- lotus white

because the effects of any color influencing factors are readily noticeable with these light colors.
    Such factors are:
1- the yellowish color of the LKL binder which affects the complete color,
2 a varying amount of yellowness due to fluctuations in the job surface temperature in different drying booths in various workshops,
3 - weathering of the standard paint finish,
4- the influence of unsuitable paint cleaning and care solutions on the standard paint finish.
For this reason it is essential when respraying with these two colors to check the color uniformity, before spraying and, if there is any doubt, to tone the paint to the correct shade with our mixing paint.

    General instructions or color toning
LKM mixing paint for LKL paint
LM mixing paint for L paint
    are available for toning purposes.
The basic composition of the two colors concerned is as follows:

The appearance of the blended standard paint makes it easier to select the correct color and shows the various shades which can be obtained with the mixing paints.
Before checking the color and toning, the contents of the tin must be stirred thoroughly.
After the mixing procedure, which may have to be repeated several times, a wet-to-wet comparison of the various mixtures will show how much the shade differs from the standard color.
An accurate assessment on the match with the vehicle can, however, not be made until the paint has been sprayed on a sheet metal specimen and dried thoroughly.
