Has anyone ever done this and driven home? I've lost my wallet with my licence in it, after telling DVLA they sent certificate of entitlement which is not guaranteed to be accepted. I've contacted Spanish and French plod together with both embassies and they all say if I get stopped it's down to individual discretion. The only way to be legal is to exchange the certificate for a temporary licence at the police station but that automatically cancels my UK one. The ever helpful DVLA won't now issue a replacement until I can prove I'm in the UK by using a landlines. Honestly it feels like I'm the 1st person ever to lose a licence abroad. I'm just going to make a dash for the border and hope I don't get stopped.
You've got to get back somehow so you might as just ride as normal. Like you say it can hardly be a unique situation so if you do get stopped just explain the situation and I can't really see there being too much of an issue(as long as you're not doing 100mph when you're stopped ).
If it's any help, there are some apps available that will spoof a landline number when calling from a mobile..... just saying. or... call someone in the UK, and hold two phones together? I find that quite funny that you need to "prove you're in the UK" by using a landline, it's no a common thing to have at home these days for a lot of people.
Especially when normally whatever company you phone says in a recorded message “ have you tried our website - please visit www…….
When you say lost your wallet - was it stolen in Spain? Quite notorious for back pocket light fingering!
PS try the Policia Local, decent folk would hand a wallet or purse into the local police station in many places
Yes, good shout. Where we lived people still go to the local town hall / local police, you don’t see that as much in the uk now.
Have you got a copy online or on your computer at home anywhere that you can get emailed over to you?
Bum. Have you got your other vehicle docs on you? We got stopped in France once for speeding through unmanned road works. We had forgotten to put in vehicle docs. (I was in a friends van off to put central heating in his house in Spain). Fortunately the gendarmes were very nice and it was more an educational stop. We said Vernons wife was due to fly out and meet us there so would bring them. Also that we were ‘tres desolate’. We were ok to go, without a fine etc. Just had to endure some strong black coffee!
A lot of people don't have a landline any more. It's not like you could use a phone box either (remember those?)
