Loose rocker

Seems to be one of those periods where anything that can go wrong will.
I removed the rocker covers to replace the 'not cheap' silicone gaskets that mysteriously disappeared when my engine was rebuilt. Checked/set valve clearances while in there, when checking the last one, r/h No4 it moved about 5mm to the right!, i then realized one plain washer and the spring washer were missing!, this is down to the' specialist' that rebuilt my engine. Anyway just checking if i can remove the spring clip and fit the washers in situ.
I always thought the left side of the engine sounded louder and clattery. Can't believe i didn't spot this before.

 

Good spot , i`d remove the whole shaft and do it on the bench rather than mess around on your back hoping not to drop things ..

 

I'm ok to do it in situ as its up on stands with wheels off, its also right on the end of the shaft the washers are missing next to the spring clip, i take it the spring clip just prises out.

 

Best to avoid “aircooled specialists”, I think.

 

Grand - can`t help with the reassembly i`m afraid having never had to do one ..

As has been said before on here, most 'specialists' aren't.

 

You have to remove the whole rocker assembly, the studs it's located on are the only thing holding it together.

The spring washers can break and disappear into the sump but not the plain ones IME... So that's shoddy on the face of it. Name and shame?

 

If you've got tattoos and have read two issues of Volksworld magazine, you're an "aircooled specialist", it seems.

 

So we're ' specialists' then! ,Oh hang on!, soz, no tattoos ,.. anywhere.

 

They also didn't fit the oil baffle plate/shim thing under the alternator stand. Scooby outfit.

Did they supply it from elsewhere or rebuild yours? Kinda sounds like they bought the cheapest clean looking one they could find on ebay and slapped it in.

Perhaps they where hoping the OP would get *******ed off fixing the aircooled lump, and would get them to convert it to Scooby..

 

It was new barrels,. pistons and new Autolinea heads, think they used original rockers and shafts.
Overall i was happy with what they did, they were very busy at the time and took on the job at no notice.
Their engines are all done at a shop nearby that just rebuild engines.

 

I wonder if they checked the piston rings end gaps, deck height and compression ratio?

Worth checking the compression if they've just slapped stuff on...
