Leisure battery wiring

  1. Only just thinking about fitting my leisure battery. got a couple of queries that I couldn't find in the howto.
I'm happy with split charge part, its the wiring from the leisure battery to the lights/radio/whatever, that i Wang to ask about.

First, is it possible to hard wire one of these sort of things direct to leisure battery?

Then I could plug in accessories.

Second, separate question. If you do the full job with fuse box and full wiring etc, how do you connect stereo into the leisure circuit to listen with engine/ignition off?

  2. I tan a wire from the battery to the front and fitted a fuse box there. Then I run the radio switched and permanent off this with an inline switch to turn the radio in and off.

You could cut the plug off that accessory above and just wire it direct to the duse box, simples

  3. I have a feed from the leisure battery to a small fuse box with 4 blade fuses under the rock and roll bed. Everything is wired to that.

  4. Ah of course the head unit has 2 power feeds doesn't it, doh!
So the multi adaptor above still needs to run through a fuse, whether an online or a fuse box.

  5. Yes still run it through a fuse, there is one built into that cigarette plug but if you chop then you need to run it off a fused wire

  6. And I am in the process of running two wires from my leisure battery one under the rocknroll bed and one to where I am going to put my fridge (so as to avoid voltage drop).

To wire the radio in don't forget the leisure battery is always effectively live.

If you're going to use that multi adaptor you might want to put an inline fuse in it so you don't overload it, not that you'd ever do that ;)

  7. So basically if I'm pishing about cutting that adaptor and putting a fuse in , I may as well just do the fuse box.

What fridge you running @Pickles ?

  8. Oh and the earth for leisure battery, do you run a neg cable from L.b. neg over to the earth point for starter batt?
Or drill a new hole for earth point next to L.b ?

  9. Just got one of these from flee bay, not 100% happy with it, though it will do the job!

  10. What's wrong with it?

  11. Haven't got one yet, no point until I'm MOT'd and back on the road, I'm actually thinking about a Waeco Coolfreeze CF 35

What's appealing is that it is very efficient. What's not so appealing is the cost, especially as the 25 litre version is £150 less!

If you just want a relay I've got one of these you can have http://www.vehicle-wiring-products....-fused-relay/3e59f761958e555b0ab870610b05eb02 as in the end I used a VSR ... you will need to get your own cable though. PM me your address if you do.

As for the earth just put a new hole in near the leisure battery I'm going to reuse the hole I already had, you can see it to the left of the fire extinguisher and below the wheel well.

  12. Yeah I like the waecos but big bucks, so have to wit a while.
Vsr is voltage sending relay? I thought it said in the howto they weren't recommended?

  13. I had one of those and was also not 100% happy as you have to loop or run four supply wires. I ended up changing it for an 8 way fuse box which has a large connection point for the positive wire that supplies all 8 ways.

  14. @vwbusman which one did you get? gotta link?

  15. I went VSR as easier to fit (wire in and wire out - as the photo below) like most things some people seem to favour and others don't.

  16. All the ones that come up in a Google search for split charge seem to be vsr

  17. Don't forget to connect it the right way round!
