i must admit i do like the small devon roof and found it practicle , the only downside of a side hinged roof for me was wind when travelling , we used a extra strap to hold it down sometimes , i am hoping the front hinged westy roof on mine won't be the same .

i chose the westy because of the double bed , cool looks , and thought out design -- will let you know, when we get to use it

One of the best $20 you can spend on a Westy is for a new flat seal from the top to the luggage rack. They shrink and lift with age, making them worse than no seal at all. At that point they are actually collecting wind & rain and shooting it right in. (and they say you won't need to glue it but you will, trust me.)
Also, ya might as well spend the full $80 and get the entire seal kit. When the large bottom seal shrinks up, all your interior heat gets sucked right up and out. And we all know how precious our heat is.
Fortunately this is all a very cheap easy fix and should last another 20 years.

I sincerely doubt he has to drop his top in strong wind, unless it's already suffering from some sort of structural damage.
I camped on an island in The Gulf of Mexico last Spring in steady wind of 40 miles per hour, occasionally gusting even higher. It blew like that for nearly two days. I was even parked facing the wind and my Westy was as solid as a rock.
Perhaps your brother in law is just the nervous type.

Woody lubber- thanks!!! We were at Bruce's Cave Campsite at Kirkpatrick Fleming near Gretna Green.
Baywatcher- he has an earlybay with the front hinged westy and is concerned about the two struts breaking away from the fibreglass!!!

I haven't got a poptop but if i was to have one it would be Danbury, I like the look of it when its down and it would give extra headroom when up i don't need extra sleeping space so i cant with aesthetics .

Oh dear. I knew those backwards Westies were bad news the moment I saw those manky little cots they have. If I wanted to break my neck I'd do it hang gliding or bungee jumping, thank you. 8)

In the U.K. that is. People prefer what they are used to. Most American buses seem to be Westies or Rivieras. It seems like most U.K. buses are not.
Try another poll just to determine which tops TLB members have. I would bet the results would be similar.
