JK's first guinea pig needed!

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Josh_JK, Aug 13, 2013.

  1. I go back to the original point which many seem to have missed - JK won`t have paid Propex for the heater **IF** it`s for development and a business benefit to all parties.
Gazman paid £400 and hopefully gets a decent heater out of the deal, whilst in my eyes JK charged for fitting and adapting/developing the unit for camper use.
Would have been a great goodwill gesture if they`d picked a good local customer and given them a freebie - surely they can spare workshop time ?

As I mentioned, although I live close I wouldn`t have been interested ..

  2. From what i can see is that the heater itself is around £575 and is available from a number of suppliers. Propex, as far as I am aware dont do specific vehicle kits and I would imagine that Type 2 VWs are a small part of their market. I would imagine that the installation kit is one that JK intends to put together to add to their catalogue and Im sure there will be a market for it. Im guessing to buy the heater and have it installed along with fabbing a plumb into the duct solution, drive in and drive out would be 8-900 squids as labour dont come cheap does it.

  3. Were starting to become bit too euro speaking here.....in england ...if you guine pig something for someone its normally gratis....would be nice of em to service to motor while ya there ....and wash it .....wax it .....polish it .....and box of haribo cola bottles.....

  5. Not sure what the Esperanto is for guinee-pig but I do get your point. I personally would have been happy to have paid and had it fitted and indeed given objective feedback on its operation and on the relative merits of and in-bus install and an underslung unit. Ive had a propex for...ever! I have an X1 unit circa late 80s I think and have had this fitted in more than one location. I used to have it in the walkthrough with a diverter to the rear and had it plumbed into the totem years ago when I couldnt afford to fix my van heating and it was my daily.

I do think that this will be a useful install for those going to J tubes who wont have heating but all others then my advice would be to fix your vehicle heating. If you want heat for non-hook up camping then fit a conventional propex.

If fixing your heating as a nightmare and you have leaky engine and oil everywhere then spend your money on fixing your bus and not on a shiny propex. That would be my advice anyway. If youve got the wonga and your heating all works tickety boo and you have this fitted for initial de-icing, demisting etc. then -fantastic and thats where Id like to be. In my view having all the heat coming through the vents near the walkthrough when camping would be fantastic. I wouldnt want it coming out of the front vents or totem as thats not usually where you need it.

Btw if you spend most of your time camping with the slider open then this will nae keep you warm unless you are using the Jap blanket technique (eh @vanorak ).

Johnny n steveagain having a chat...now there's a thread for the grammar and punctuation police to get excited about.:)

  11. @Dicky...have you thought about patenting the Jap Blanket technique? You could outsource production to some dirt poor Korean peasants, knock up a batch of said throws in VW specific tartan plaid, and do a downloadable instruction video for £50....Quick before JK do it:D

  16. Its interesting reading your posts as you cant read ahead or predict the next word so you have to read the words and then construct some meaning from them. It like listening to someone foreign who only has limited English and you pick up on a word and then get them to re-say the snetence and then eventually work out wtf they are talking about! In the end youve got your point across as i havent passively absorbed it but worked at it!

    Hi All,

Not sure why, but I haven't had any notifications on any of the posts since my last one, so I've had some catching up to do!

I've just had a quick read of the posts that I missed, and whilst I understand that some of you aren't that happy with the trialling offer that we put up at the start of this thread, I made every effort to make it completely clear what was on offer, how much everything was and who would be paying for what. Everything was laid out right from the start, and if people were interested they were invited to get in touch, which several people did. I'm really sorry if I missed anyone out, such a @Dicky who mentioned he hadn't heard anything back.

Just to clarify things a bit, we did pay for the unit from Propex, so we certainly haven't made any money on the install (especially as it overran!)

We chose to put the offer out there on the Late Bay and prototype bay forums as we wanted to get an idea of whether people would actually want this new style Propex in their vans (the type we already stock is really popular, but we didn't know whether anyone would want this kind) and because we thought it would be nice to offer the opportunity to a member of the community, rather than just picking someone we wanted to give it to or keeping it for ourselves and installing it on to one of our own vehicles.

@TheGazman is actually in the JK office right now and seems pretty happy with the unit, but I'm sure he'll be along at some point after he gets back home to give his own opinion on it :)

    Thanks
    Josh

  18. Ho @Josh_JK WE tend to move on pretty quickly and elements of this discusion weve been having are semantic really. AS regards the offer. I understood exactly what wa on offer! Look forwards to the review and pics and hope its a worthwhile upgrade - i suspect so as it could solve an number of issues and probably a useful sterr as some of us will be retro fitting earlier types of heaters utilising similar methodology. Nice to have it all done for you though!!

Thanks Dicky, I'll save the write up on how it performs for Gazman as he'll be trialling it on the way home, but we've got some (slightly burred!) which I've attached below
