  5. Gibbly jukes? New one on me?

  6. I'm not making excuses for them, or their lifestyle, but I do think that this type of programming is completely unbalanced

I can't watch any more of this, I've got to think of my look pressure.

But if they're home all day why don't they TIDY UP !:mad::mad:

  9. You can be brought up in it and want to be like it or not want to be like it!! Its not always a choice but sometimes luck or turning the right corner can help , or having two parents with morals and care or at least being taught them?? but then theirs do gooders !!!

Presumably they were living like pigs before the film crew turned up. Presumably when they say to the cameras that its not worth working because they get money for free it wasn't a script they'd been given.
Yes I'm sure that there are normal people in Jaywick and the TV concentrate on the wasters, but they do exist.
A woman proudly announcing that luckily her child has been diagnosed as autistic so she gets more money.

  11. One thing i dont understand was the quote "her £2400 benefits go a lot further now shes moved from London"
Is it a straight payment no matter where you live?

    It worked.

  13. Yep, think i need to turn it off:)

Oh I couldn't make it up...

A woman who is on the dole thinks she might be pregnant "wiv anuvver ickle babby innit?" And she gets given pregnancy testers free.

  15. I agree wholeheartedly with you, but we've probably had a similar upbringing...
For a number of years I lived in a predominantly asian community. The litter was appalling...every day the Council would send round the trucks, within hours it was back to a sh*thole....now before anyone accuses me of veiled racism, don't. That community was responsible for generating the litter...no one else. My point is, litter on the streets wasn't regarded as an issue by the majority of people living amongst it...different values...

The residents of Jaywick appear to have different values (for whatever reason)

I'd no doubt have different values (and expectations) if I lived/grew up there. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I think we'd all do well to consider the underlying circumstances that create this mindset, before writing people of as 'scum'.

Yeah, me too, sweet dreams :)

  17. . Unfortunately its so called clever well educated people who have helped to breed this :(

  18. I know for a fact that the TV company plied the people they filmed with booze and fags during the making of 'Skint'....looks better for the cameras...shame it wasn't a few bottles of Bolly, then we could all blow our tops;)

as for the lady with an autistic child....what an absolute tragedy that she should regard her circumstances in such a way.....and pity that poor kid......but sadly, this is her reality!:(

Inviting the public's ire with this type of programming before 'justifiably' slashing benefits isn't the way to resolve these issues....redressing the balance between the haves and have nots is...maybe the policy makers should spend a little more time chasing up those billions in unpaid tax by the ridiculously wealthy, before actively encouraging fascistic scapegoatism amongst the working populace

  19. I looked up up jaywick on the tinterweb a couple of years ago

It used to be smart in the 30's and 40's from what I rccall...
then it became holiday homes area for ford car employees...and all went to pot when they retired.. And people lived there permanently in shoddy sheds

Benefits for these people should be slashed. How is it right that they can take home 2 or 3 times the sum earned by someone working a full time job? Imo it can't be.
Haves and have nots? If they genuinely can take home £2400 a month it's the wrong section of society that "have".

  21. And this is entirely the point of programmes such as this. There is a saying that you can do anything if you keep the general population distracted. Find the worst possible example of what you are trying to demonise - hold a magnifying glass up to it - get people angry about benefit claimants generally. Whilst everyone is busy getting upset about that, they forget that the amount of tax being avoided at the top end could resolve all of the financial problems of this country. Divide and rule. Play the middle off against the bottom while the top take everything.
