Maybe the TLB courier service can get it to you sooner? Start point either GL103UQ or N209DP or somewhere on the line between the two .......

  2. bless you, i was kidding! I think I'll be better off sticking with the ramps, not sure how having a rollover taking up more space in his workshop would go down. i don't want to annoy the welder/ take the p*ss :)

  4. haha! It's probably because i'm out of practice, rigging theatres used to work those muscles, not done it for ages. Still, it'll be tightening up the bingo-wings and larger shoulders always make my waist look even smaller - result!:D

I just need to rig a device to help me get off the pillow in the morning.... ouch.

  12. it's good, isn't it. i'm enjoying this process because i'm learning more about what the underneath gubbins do now... about bloody time! :D

I knew the top of the bus from stripping it down 15 years ago, but never did do anything other than underseal the bottom as it was all pretty sound - which is surprising as it was used on a farm in the uk for 30 years!

  14. I haven't got a clue what some of the bits are/do still but am getting to know them. I didn't know the sills were in three parts... I assumed @Lasty was on drugs/drunk when he told me!:burp:

  16. Another night of rust fighting and checking how solid stuff is; surprisingly very solid so far.

Had thought I may need new outriggers and jacking points but no, all fine! Phew.

Only one pic because it’s taking ages as there’s a lot of surface to derust, a lot of awkward places and the angle grinder is sooo heavy.

Made a start with some strip and clean discs I had and made a shiny axle and chassis bits

Westies have the biggest roof cuts and up to 72 had belly pans as westies are based on minibuses with full length sunroofs from the factory. After 72 they have the centre crossmember in the roof and ditched the pans if they didn't have a central aux heater.

Devons etc are based on panel vans, unsure if VW knew they were destined for conversation so hard to establish if they insisted on belly pans.

I suspect that the twin sliders had them by default.

Supposedly the pans make a van better to drive as they make the chassis more rigid.

If you are going to put them back in make sure you have decent drain holes at least!!

Not all Devon’s are panel vans ;)
Just out of interest, where would the central crossmember be in the roof? Devon’s have a whopping roof cut from the back of the cab to the head banger locker, if mine is anything to go by! (August 73 build minibus)
