This is one for the guys running Subaru conversions. What premium do you pay (approx. figures will be fine) please? Ive just spoken to RH Insurance and to pop a 2.0 Subaru in Major would cost ~ £240 per annum with a £11k current valuation or £300 with a £17k valuation figure applied. Please, no ripping the heart out of it comments etc, else you will be scorned forever Approximate figures will be fine and appreciated. @bernjb56 @Moons @Baysearcher @pkrboo Thanks in advance
Mines about £180. Can't remember what the agreed value is, maybe £15k. 5000 miles Carole Nash just charged me an admin fee when I changed engine.
Mine went down... tried charging me more.. but tried another co. Think I'm paying 170/180 ish 16k value and 5k miles per year.. and by the way.. a sooby lump puts a huge smile on ya face ..
Mine was around £170 before conversion (10! years ago). It went up to £176 - value was £20k. Its higher in the new house - all insurances have gone up 15% I'm guessing because its rural. Robbing buggers. Make sure you get your V5 updated with engine size and number.
What are the consequences if this isn't done? (PO changed out the previous-PO installed type4 for an original type1 putting it back to stock. I've just got the new V5 but the old engine number is still on it...).
It`s best to change the V5 and bite the bullet to be honest , they`ll look for any excuse to wriggle out of a claim ... It will only amount to a few quid more for peace of mind .
As @Lasty pointed out - its more for insurance, as they don't ask for engine number etc. but will ratify against engine and chassis numbers should you seek to claim. If you MOT the van, I'd also nominate that proving that those details we correct on the ministry systems is important evidence.
You need a garage to write an official letter on headed paper to change the engine number. I tried once and the DVLA just sent back a fresh copy of the original V5. Ever after I have not bothered.
That's not a problem Mike, I can get that sorted out easily. Our mot guy will do that for me, its a service he offers as / when required.
I sent them a letter explaining the change, and included a copy of the receipt from Fellowes for the conversion. Had no issues.
