Installing front badge

Hi guys,
My new purchase Verma arrived with the front VW badge not attached. All the holes are there and I have the nuts to fit it.
What's the best way to get behind the front panel to screw down the nuts ?

I think you fit a clip to the panel and mount the badge to that:

If it's a late Bay with the small badge, it's held on by three push-in clips, as above.

 

Mine's a '72 so I'm not sure that one would fit. Unless it's the same fitting. I'm not really sure.
