Simple task, feed in, feed out plus switch wire was in my tiny brain. Electric off, removed switch wire and bent the end over so I new the switch wire. Job jobbed. Screwed new fitting up. Then OOOOO four wires in not 3 !! Electrician coming tomorrow ha ha ha
Keeps us sparky types busy.. You lucky it's not a plumber you need... wouldn't get one of them on a weekend.. You can find out which is the switch pair with a multimeter.. with the power off..
It use to be one of my favourite Sunday night call outs home owners taking the light down and putting all the reds and all the blacks together and blowing the fuse.
Thanks its a bit weird, done loads before, only one live wire in so I am scuppered. Rather just pay someone
We have 3 switches to control 1 light in our kitchen. I still haven't got my head round how it works... and frankly can't be bothered to either
It used to a regular call from friends and family... Daaaaz, just changed a light , put all the same colours together ..
It confused me when nothing was connected that no other lights work upstairs, the one next door had power to all 3 red in the light fitting but light in that room didn't work, anyway, bloke be here any minute hopefully, It is the Isle of Wight though so probably won't turn up and it will be back to me ha ha ha
Well, the chap that turned up was recommended, he is semi retired !!! He sort of new stuff but was a bit bewildered at the wiring. He had a meter that beeped though to test continuity, something I dont have. I dont understand the wiring here at all, nor did he. With nothing connected in the light fitting the switch still had power to it from somewhere. The bedroom next door all 3 red wires in the ceiling pendant were live but the wires in the switch in that room were dead (as was the light obviously ) , as they feed from the pendant in the room I broke. Very strange but all sorted now.
Were you wearing a pair a tracksuit bottoms while you were doing the light? If not, that might be the problem.
