  1. Welcome back.

Today has been like attending a school reunion with old friends that you lost contact with and actually liked.

....hey, I've just found my original intro from march 2010 using the google cached thing meantioned in general!!!

......and its typically long winded ;D

"Hi all I thought I'd introduce myself for my first post on the site so a quick hello.

My name is Dale I'm an electrical design engineer by trade and Im also a specialist access rescue senior technician.

I usually frequent the JK forum and the practical classic forum but I was recommended to join this site so I'm hoping for a lot advice with my project as It progresses and perhapse a shoulder to cry on when things go wrong

I've been into classic vehicles for some time and drive a 1971 MGB roadster as my daily drive, unfortunatly I can't get the whole family into a 2 seater so it has taken a year or so to convince my other half that getting another project would be great to get the whole family round the classic cars shows we regularly vist. And so it came to be that I became the owner of a 1973 bay window camper (called Woody) - my first experience of air colled motoring.

I've owned the bus since September 2009 and bought it as a restoration project. It had been sitting on the owners drive for 4 years or more before I bought it. It needs the usual lower 6inches replaced which I'm doing my self.

It sat in my neighbours garden for a week or so whilst I cut down my back fence to get it into the garden. I bought a new battery but could not get it started so through process of illimination traced it to a seized starter which no end of bashing with a hammer would convince it to turn. I couldn't get to buy the starter motor for a few weeks so my neighbour said he would pick it up for me. He paid for it him self (I paid him back later) and fitted it whilst I was at work (unknown to me ), he phoned me up and said can you hear that - its your bus running. He had pumped some of the 4yr old fuel into a bottle, he said "it smell ok, looked ok, tasted ok so I poured some on the bomfire and chucked a match on and it went up so I decided to try and start it!" it burst into life after less than a minuit apparently it runs very smoothly. At this point I should point out that the motor is a vega 1600 with about 30K worth of milage under it's belt.

I've got to say I am quite lucky having a neighbour like Ian, he did all the spray work on my MG and is quite keen on tinkering with motors and has offered to paint my wagon when I get to that stage - he's into classic bikes and the guy he works with has at least 4 classic vehicles (at least thats what he told his wife when we were chatting - I suspect hes got a few more)

My plan is to restore the bus and use it as my daily and trips away so that I can take the MG off the road for a complete restoration.

Unfortunatly I have only taken a 40min 40ft trip from my neighbours garden to mine and it will be at least a year before I get on the road. I have started some of the work - cut out drivers (RHD) side sill, new ends to top hats, lower rear inner arch repair, cut out seat belt mount, repaired some floor areas replaced lower half of drivers side chassis rail and half way through cutting out the front cross member to get to the rotten front top hat. The weather has really been holding me up as the bus is in the garden and not undercover.

Anyway...as you can probably tell from my quick hello that has turned into a long ramble, I do tend to waffle on a bit so if you catch me doing it again feel free with the banter

Keep it real all......and live your dream "
