Years ago my mechanic mate said he'd found a car for my Mum. Told me it was a allegro, I said no especially if it was hearing aid beige or brown.
It was a 1.5 in brown :gnome:
Turned out to be one of the best cars she ever had (and no she didn't have many bad ones)

I’ve had two allegro estates, one a works car that was brilliant, and one we had as my wife’s daily, that one was the fabled Friday car, it was pants. She traded it in for a similar looking new black polo estate, that was pants too! :(

Dad had 2 Allegros, the 1.3 was pleasant enough but the 1750 Sport:)D) that followed was by some margin the worst car I've ever had the misfortune to drive:rolleyes:

Compared with the styling of some estates, at least the design theme applies to the whole vehicle, not having a bit just wedged on the back of a standard 4-door saloon, and the boot lid left off.
I have sort of happy memories of keeping a friend's Allegro going while we were at university - he was sponsored and rich enough to run a car, but used to hypermile it in 5th gear at about 25mph..
I can remember just walking down the road to one of the many local scrap yards to unbolt braking system components from scrap vehicles in dodgy stacks. . (return spring in master cylinder .. )

He is one of those bonkers guys that buys them all whenever the come up for sale ...including abroad .

So you've never driven a 1.8 Marina? Or an early 90s Kia Mentor? Or a first generation SsansYong Rodius? I reckon they are all far worse:D

If we’re coming out then I had a V reg Vermilion orange Allegro 3 1300. It cost £50 and another £100 to get it painted. Regularly had to bump start it or hit the starter with a hammer that I kept in the n/s footwell

I always thought that the 1.3 Marina drove perfectly well for the era. But, 1.8 B series gave it enough power, combined with the weight on the front end and the rubbish brakes, to be a complete liability
