Called in to Harewood house for the VW festival on the sunday. I was a bit dissapointed with the show, but i guess the're always better when you stay over the full weekend.. This new new style bug looked amazing. Much better than the photo shows.
After the near tropical climate of N. Yorkshire we headed up to Scotland, up the A68. Check out the fog at 10am. After we left here it got thicker and i couldn't see my spare wheel.
Camped on a farm next door to our friends house, not far from Melrose. This was in a barn. Looked well used and abused.
That old debate of where to put the spare wheel??? I found a great place inside. Its a wonder Westfalia never thought of it
moved all my bits and bobs, tools etc. from all the cubby holes and stashed them in and around the wheel.
All this created a new problem. Mrs Vinnyboy thought the front end looked great but 2 days later when she went to fill the skinny shelves with food and other crap she found the new home of the spare wheel and was not happy. I had to come up with a new plan.
Removed the water tank. This freed up loads of room. I've never used it in 7 years. Always carry a water container and fill up fresh every day on site. I then made this draw to fit the lower space. Mrs Vinnyboy happy again
The flap over the Westy water inlet port had fell off last year so i was on the lookout for a new one. This was also an item i had never used ever. In the end i had a makeover of the big unit. Removed the wood that covered the drain. All this new space allowed me to move my gas bottle to the back wall. Fresh new gas hoses with a quick release connection and a T to my new BBQ outlet in place of the water inlet. Same size hole so no cutting req.
Quick tidy up of the back end. I had some blistering of the paint arround the plastic bungs just above the bumper so i carefully attacked it with a small grinder. Then i cleaned out the inside and treated it with FE123 rust inhibitor. For now, a quick fix was to cover the repairs with some red reflectors. Not the perfect answer but it looks better than it did and i've stopped it getting worse.
it looks like you've done much the same as me in the cupboards apart from the spare wheel area - my propex lives in there and we store the bowl and 5 litres of water above the propex, i'm liking the gas idea though, my door was broken on the water inlet but i just fitted a new one to fill the gap, i'd quite like to stick my gas bottle outside while camping and free up more cupboard.........
you know what, i just realised after all these years yours is a T reg, all the champs i've seen pictures of are S, yours must be a later one mines March 78 yours must be after August?
Thanks Ricky. Those seats are from a Vauxhall VectraB 2002. I drilled the VW runner spot welds off and then bolted these seats direct to the floor.. The best bit is a customer brought this car in to our place with a snapped timing chain. The engine was toasted, valves upside down sticking out of the pistons etc. It was going to cost about 4 times the value of the car to fix it so he just left it and said anyone could have it for free. I nearly snapped his hands off. Took the seats out then scrapped the car for £50. Bingo I did feel a little bit guilty
