  1. ive been doing a few bits and pieces to my gearbox one job was to change the drive flange oil seals so thought i would stick it up here for any one thinking of doing it.
my box is a pre 75 ce code so this may differ on other box,s

my box was already out the van with the oiled drained and degreased

the first thing to do is remove the round cap in the middle of the drive flang its metal with a rubber coating i got mine out with a small flat bladed screw driver causing no damage to them

then you will need to remove the circlip this is a bugger the way i did it was to open it with circlip pliers the put a screw driver in it and remove as you would remove a bike tire doing this will make the circlip usless and new ones will need to be fitted
    [IMG]

then the drive flange should pull off
    [IMG]

leaving you with a plastic cup i marked this first so it can be fitted back in the same place remove this with the two screw these will be tight

as you can see there is a lot of road dirt in there this needs to be cleaned out but be careful not to get this in the drive flange bearing i would NOT use an airline on this as you would blow the dirt into the box.

then remove the oil seal i managed to get a slide hammer behind them to pull it out they are very tight
the original seal part number is 002-301-189/A but these are not available any more, the new ones are 002-301-189/C these are thicker and seat right down when fitted.

once everything is clean use some oil on the seal and push it in i used a round peice of plastic and tapped it in, there is also a washer behind the flange you can see this in the pic if you have taken this out for cleaning make sure you put it back in the corret way with the flat side pointing out towards the flange
    [IMG]

    refit the plastic cup
    [IMG]

then push the flange back on and fit a new circlip make sure it clips in the pic below is with it put on the shaft with pliers but not seated
    [IMG]

you will need a round bit of tube that fits over the spline

and give it a very light tap and the circlip should click in place

then refit the cap with i smear of oil

and you should be done hope this helps someone out :)
