  1. hi to all. i have vanagon 2.0 from 1980.
    automatic gearbox.

problem is because 16 MPG is too much for me (i am in europe).

what can i do to reduce gasoline consumption on minimum.
i will be satisfied with consumption of 23mpg.

    is how this possible ??

    many thanx.

  2. remove anything you dont need, will help a bit.

  3. Service the plugs and points and check the ignition timing, Is it fuel injection or carbs?

i have a 2 litre auto also, i get 17 -23 i guess depending on how i drive, best way to improve mpg is to be corectly tuned and all set up correctly with good spark (and correct tyre pressures help too) the best way to improve mpg is reading the road better less acceleration and braking will help.

  5. it is two carbs.

i am driving around 50- 60km/h and spent all my money on gasoline.

next week i should go to the little trip for about 500km, and i have 150 euros for gaosline :D

    i have new tires,

i dont have someone who can tune my carbs. :( i am in *****ed country where is noone dont want have buissines with this old machine.

i put new ngk spark plugs.

You'll never get great gas mileage with an auto if I'm honest.

Learn to drive with as light as possible pressure on the gas pedal.
    Keep your tires correctly inflated.
Keep it as empty as you can.
    Don't open the windows.

    My latest figures.

i've given up worrying about mpg in the van, the car does 60mpg this offsets my van mileage which i smile while doing, if i'm pee'd off the van makes me smile.

  11. Link works, Go down to slow download, then up a bit on the page then type in the code thing that appears and it should download

If your plugs are sooty black, it means your engine is running rich and will use more fuel.
