1968 push button where key is inserted in middle of handle used to open door
1969-79 release lever on handle between handle and door cavity now squeezed to open door

1968-77 to Ch# 2172 137 042 wire spring with rollers, Strap vertical, Mounting holes ????
1977 from Ch# 2172 137 043 Nylon insert, Strap now horizontal and flat, Mounting holes ????

I think it's the positioning of the banner. too high up and above the immediate eye area. People tend to scroll down right away and miss it.
