Would it cost to convert a VW campervan to electric?
    The full conversion…

  2. £27.50? I'm guessing.

A cheap kit starts at about 10k. That’s for a fairly small battery that’s good for about 100 miles iirc

I saw a film of a conversion they said 36,000pound!!

  6. DIY kits are emerging and conversion companies setting up. Some of it is a bit Heath Robinson but others tidy. As usual, there’s no one answer, lower range using existing Vw gear box, won’t trouble a boomer’s equity mountain, tesla dual-motor affair with 300 mile range is a scratchcard away.

Perhaps I should of said “starter kit” rather than cheap….

I did half heartedly look into doing electric conversions, but the cost of the parts alone was prohibitive, to say the least. Give it another couple of years and maybe the cost will have come down a bit… or the price of petrol will be forcing us into it!

  10. Was that that absolute pillock with dreads, no clue about anything, the one who cut all the unnecessary chassis rails out from under his orange bus so he could mount the batteries?

I kept watching because I assumed he was going to do himself some serious harm, welding, grinding, drilling with very little clothing on to protect himself from sparks.

The guy is a self proclaimed eco-warrior, hence the electric bus. Someone pointed out in the comments on youtube that he's moved to south america but going to fly back to the US 2 or 3 times a month to do a Vlog, very eco-friendly.
