Loads of Americans have already done it. One i saw spent 10k dollars just on 2nd hand Tesla batteries
A cheap kit starts at about 10k. That’s for a fairly small battery that’s good for about 100 miles iirc
DIY kits are emerging and conversion companies setting up. Some of it is a bit Heath Robinson but others tidy. As usual, there’s no one answer, lower range using existing Vw gear box, won’t trouble a boomer’s equity mountain, tesla dual-motor affair with 300 mile range is a scratchcard away.
Perhaps I should of said “starter kit” rather than cheap…. I did half heartedly look into doing electric conversions, but the cost of the parts alone was prohibitive, to say the least. Give it another couple of years and maybe the cost will have come down a bit… or the price of petrol will be forcing us into it!
Was that that absolute pillock with dreads, no clue about anything, the one who cut all the unnecessary chassis rails out from under his orange bus so he could mount the batteries? I kept watching because I assumed he was going to do himself some serious harm, welding, grinding, drilling with very little clothing on to protect himself from sparks. The guy is a self proclaimed eco-warrior, hence the electric bus. Someone pointed out in the comments on youtube that he's moved to south america but going to fly back to the US 2 or 3 times a month to do a Vlog, very eco-friendly.
he was very special but it was car crash tv I had to keep watching waiting for the whole lot to go up in smoke. I did see it kept braking down and he was trying to push it.
