How long to strip and rebuild a type 4?

  1. Carbs are as yet undecided, possibly the oversize Brosol's from Ted, or maybe some Webers if some turn up.

  2. Make sure you use the scat lube-a-lobe lifters too :)

  3. Where does one find this cam you speak of.
    Cool air have Scat ones.

  4. sorry to hi jack but these said bits of Marmitee , shouldnt they be replaced ? and do they stop oil running along bolts? , just i heard someone say this somewhere ?? sorry as you were , just interested ?

  5. A couple of them fell apart, can you buy them? Do you need them?

  6. Silver

    Silver Needs points/will pay!

I think they come in the gasket set?

  8. Excellent.
Now to find a cam and followers.
Tomorrow will be cleaning day. :)
Then maybe a bit of finishing on the trailer.

  9. Should I have measured end float before stripping it? :(

  10. no, you do that when you put it back together!!

Stateside stock web cams... Coolair list them too

buying direct is the cheapest way ;)

  11. Yes buy direct. Mucho cheapness. How long can you wait? I'm iff to the US in a few weeks (mid-April) and plan to bring back a type 4 hoard in my hand luggage
    :)

  12. Got the crank stripped today. (Eventually)
I'm a little confused about bearing sizes.
Can someone do an idiots guide?

  13. Sussed it out myself and it appears that all is std in my engine. :)
    And well within tolerances.
    :)

  14. finished it yet ?

  15. As you didn't need a guide, does that mean your not an idiot?
    nice result BTW:thumbsup:

  16. Had a right result.
Nick (who lives between me and Keith) bought some type 1 tins I had for £150 and then found me the spare type 4 ones I need to complete my set. :)
I then spent three times that on MORE go faster bits for the rebuild.
Should be a rocket when it's done and look good too!
Decided on black tins and a green fan housing.

  17. How is the engine rebuild coming along?

  18. Nice looking beetle! What colour is it? Fontana grey?

  19. Dove Grey I think.

  20. Ok so I'm almost back to where I started with the engine, this is where it gets difficult.
There appears to be some bits missing that I have no knowledge of.
I think there should be some steel bracketry to hang the alternator off of, I also need an alternator pulley and a spring clip for the breather box.
