How did everyones dogs cope last night?

  1. Spent most of the hours it was dark until about 2am trying to keep Lucy one of my dogs calm as she's scared stiff of fireworks.
Every book/website/vet/person with an idea says to ignore them and let them find somewhere to hide which is fine except Lucy wants to just sit on you and drools with her heart pounding. :(

We've tried everything over the past 10 years and nothing has worked. I put it down to her being a stubborn collie.
Our other dog couldn't give two hoots about the noises and will try and get through the curtains to watch them. ::)

I was planning on heading out into deapest darkest cumbria last night and kipping in the camper but its not back on the road yet. :(

How did everyone elses dogs cope?

  2. Sophie was fine she slept all night, when she did wake up she just wanted to go out on the deck and look at them :)

  3. Fine he looked up when there was a real loud one but he was pretty chilled :)

  4. Ron, our cat has just been to the vets on an out of hours call. He very old and get toilet troubles when he gets worried. :(

  5. poor Ron!

we seemed to have a firework blitz around 7pm then a few moronic bangs every half hour or so,

What I don't understand is in Liverpool we have a couple of big, free firework displays that are truly spectacular (I watched one park display from behind the curtains careful not to let Puca see) and it was great, far superior to anything shop bought.

So why do people buy their own? Or for that matter have the money to blow up?

In Costco yesterday they had 'home' displays on sale for £150! I apreciate if you have young children a few low key fizzy fireworks are best and parking at organised things can be a nightmare but have people got the money to burn?

Sorry for the threadjack but if org. displays were the main feature it would be done by 8/9pm and then the dogs , cats, etc could settle.

    Rant over ;)

  6. No problem till i let them out for the toilet, soon as they came in nps, we didnt even hear any to be honest.

  7. Mollie, our Yorkie Cross hates them and spent the evening never more than 2 foot away from one of us. Luckily all was quiet in town from about 11pm.

Jackson, our Cocker puppy couldn't care less and never even flinched once :)

  8. Well we took Harvey the cocker for a walk, he was fine untill someone set of one of those box fireworks and he goyt a bit twitchy but he was fine after that.

So proud of my boy. :)

  9. All 3 of mine didnt have a care in the world!!  (I think florences ears cover her from the noise!!)

My 2 workers were in their kennels though and I didnt want them out in their compound while the nieghbours had their firworks going incase the load bangs attracted them and caused and accident! (they have eaten through the fencing before! ::))

At 11pm with world war 3 raging and me wanting to let them out for 5 before i went to bed I nearly had a rage moment and was about to shout across at em I was letting the dogs out anyway and anything that followed was their fault cos 11pm was well past my bedtime!!

Anyway as i went down the garden it all stopped!! ;D

Lucky in more ways than 1!! :) :)

  10. Blimey, that doesn't sound like fun at all mate. Threatening people with dogs for making a noise on firework night! Your dogs would be knackered with all the threatening they'd have to do round my way :->
    Cheers

  11. Diggy got doped up and spent the night snoozing on the end of our bed. We've tried everything over the years, and this is the only thing that works. Problem for my dog is that it's not just one night - the minute the first firework goes off - on whatever day it may be - then that's it, he won't go outdoors after dark and hides in the wardrobe, stressed out and panting. On very bad nights he will wet himself/ be sick. That's him now until about Feb time, because just as I've got him back to (fairly) normal then bingo it's Christmas/New Year and it's fireworks time all over again.

I hate it. He hates it. It makes him so nervous now that even a slight bang of a door will send him into a panic (as people at Dubs int Dales will testify).

Womble on the other hand had a casual stroll around with Paley while the fireworks were in full pelt and didn't even bat an eyelid - he was too busy looking for cats to chase.

  12. It wasnt a problem until 11pm when I wanted to go to bed!! :(

Most people wouldve been upset with the house shaking after 9 as the kids were trying to sleep but i thought fairs fair and kept putting the boys back to bed after all it was bonfire night!! (and Im not the only parent with little ens round here so Im sure Im not the only one who had had enough by this point!)

If i had put them on the leads walked them round and then said stop it my dogs want to be let out in the garden... That wouldve been threatening!! Shouting Im letting the dogs out in the compound its 11pm come on guys give it a break and what happens next is you fault not mine isnt threatening its being considerate and polite in my books!! ;)

  13. After the first couple of fireworks Mary got the hang of the matches and put on a fantastic display ;)

  14. In general, all of ours were OK considering. ;D

Sprout and Buddy didn't hear a thing bless 'em
Duffy, Darcy, Jake and Ned didn't really bother unless Ella barked, in which case Jake and Ned would bark (just because they could!)
Wellington loved them and spent most of the night in the garden with a craned neck!
Ella wanted to bark at each and everyone to make them go away!
Grace didn't like them and we had to give her rescue remedy :(

Same again tonight I suppose :(

  15. What a brilliant name Wellington! ;D

  16.
  17.
  18. Strangely our collie cross who is normally scared of everything, had her first bonfire night without the other dog for company and stayed calm all night. I'm thinking it used to be the other dog who set her off. Fireworks are going off again tonight and she doesn't seem bothered at all.

  19. did the rescue remedy work?

  20. Brilliant!! There is Womble (Zoes dog!) Wellington (your dog) Im just gutted i didnt call Florence Madam Cholet !! :( :(
