Help! Unable to find mechanic in Surrey!

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by dazzaxjr, Aug 14, 2011.

  1. Can anyone help me? I am leaving for the south of France on Friday and desperately need someone to look at the suspension on my van!!

I tried a local firm a few weeks ago, went in for noisy front bearings, then three ball joints and a new anti roll bar later the vans worse than ever! I just need someone I can trust. At the moment I am worried as I am facing a 1500 mile trip with my wife and kids in the van and I don't know if its safe.

If anyone can recommend someone in the M25 / J10 area I would really appreciate it!

And yes I have spoken to Mr VWFish, who is seeing if he has the time, but he's 80 miles away and I haven't given him enough time I think. :(

So can anyone save my Holiday? Please?

    Thanks, Darrell.

  3. Have you tried Volkspares in Sydenham? They will give you a quick turnaround.

There is also a Volkswagen garage opposite Selhurst Park on Whitehorse Rd. I have not had any work done by them but I've chatted to them and the bloke owns a very tidy bay he's been doing up.

Aircooled in Carshalton is another option although I did find him very unreliable on our one experience of using him.

^ thats good info to have Rich, cheers!

Yet if you read Volksworld, it does read that they do resto's and mechanical work

I think you'll find Phil @ Brickfields is so so busy with restorations/bodywork/paint etc, that he simply has too much already, and is mostly on his own I believe. Has worked on my bus quite a bit, and does the annual service/MOT etc for me and any paintwork etc...top bloke and does turn out some cracking buses..

Give him a call and ask him if he can recommend anyone, as I'm sure when I last spoke to him, he mentioned a friend over Epsom way I believe, who specialises in aircooled mechanics...worth a phone call tomorrow...good luck!

  8. Try giving pete a call...

He may be busy but he's a top bloke, and even if he can't fit it in he probably knows someone who can help.

I can second that about Alan CORRECTION: Phil at Brickfield. His garage is spotless because he doesn't do mechanical repairs there and i can't blame him hence why his paint work is soooo good.

  16. Well, took the bus down to aircooledtechnic as it was the closest garage suggested.

They didn't have room to book it in, but spent an hour after work test driving and listening to all the strange rattles. In the end concluded that its probably the "idler pin" in the steering, but anyway seems perfectly safe to drive. Couldn't find any major faults. Finally packed the idler pin with grease and I went on my way.

So we're going to chance it!! I'll just turn up the music and double check the breakdown insurance is paid up. :)

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. The search goes on for a good mechanic if anyone has anymore suggestions.

Apologies again to VWFish for the panicy phone calls. I will put some business your way soon!!

Leave on Friday afternoon for south of France. Cant wait!

    Cheers!
