you can get the year of maunfacture off the vin number if all you want to do is register it, the dvla are only bothered with exact dates if you want free tax, for example i presented all the paperwork in the world to say mine was built 6/3/78 and the log book says 1/1/78 on it, i rang them to ask why and they said it's default if we don't have to prove free tax we don't care so we just put the first of the month! the birth certificate can be got from the uk i belive mine was from germany and took a couple of weeks as they cocked it up.

  6. Use the following to decode your m-plate. - : http://vw-mplate.com/mcode.php?lang=EN&plate_type=70-79&p2_CC_CCC_CCC=CC+CCC+CCC&p2_MMM1=MMM&p2_MMM2=MMM&p2_MMM3=MMM&p2_MMM4=MMM&p2_MMM5=MMM&p2_PPPPII=PPPPII&p2_MMM6=MMM&p2_MMM7=MMM&p2_MMM8=MMM&p2_MMM9=MMM&p2_DD_D=DD+D&p2_UUUU=UUUU&p2_EE=EE&p2_XXXX_TT=XXXX+TT

I'm always a bit late responding, but here goes. When i reg'd mine a few months back, I took a print out of my m-code decode and used that. The lady behind the desk was fine with this.

Mine said: Planned production date - Friday, 29 September 1978
