No - only happened since .

 

Ignition modules do have a reputation for breaking down when they get hot. As do coils.

TBH I am not very mechanically minded - so when I asked mechanic to change to electronic ignition I didn’t specify which brand to use . I have subsequently been told that accuspark are not the best product ? Maybe I need to change ?

 

Rather than shooting from the hip you need to identify the problem. Not easy if it happens on longer runs.
Was the whole distributor replaced or a module fitted to replace the points?
If the latter, refitting points and seeing what happens would be a cheap way forward.

 

And a condenser. Just thought I'd mention it but its probably obvious to the OP.

 

Yes it was the latter - and I did buy points kit and condenser as back up. I suppose it’s a case of eliminating all probable causes until we find the culprit as there Is nothing obvious from looking at the surface . Thanks for your help

I thought I would take the camper for a gentle ride to the beach at the weekend as I cannot see mechanic until next week . Anyway knew something wasn’t quite right as heavy smell of oil .
Anyway got home and smoke was coming from underneath - I have attached a video. Would this be connected with the engine cutting out last week ,have to say there wasn’t any smoke last week or the smell of oil. Or Maybe just a Coincidence. I am assuming the smoke is connected with a hole in the exhaust ???
