  1. Hello to everyone,

Just accomplished a lifelong dream and gone and purchased a 1979 Type 2 Bay in Orange and White (Devon Moonraker conversion).

I live in Kingston Upon Thames for those who know it, have two little ones (6 and 2 yrs). My wife started out shocked when I brought the bus home last weekend, but now the fusty smell has subsided (I've spent 20 hours+ cleaning) she (the wife) is actually pretty upbeat about the whole thing. So big result there!

We were planning a trip to Cornwall this coming weekend anyway, so figure we may as well go in the Camper (of course!). Its my first big trip in her. Any do's / don'ts for my first trip?

Cheers and all and looking forward to geeking out with you good people :)

    Ged

Hello and a big welcome from Tufty.
We bought our van whilst expecting.. and twenty two years later we've just had a lovely tour of the Yorkshire Dales with said daughter and boyfriend..
    They are family.

Welcome ...and what an excellent idea to go to cornwall in the camper . Keep checking your oil level if you are unsure of it's consumption .

  8. Thanks CollyP. Well, I tell a lie. I drove it from Birmingham to get it home, and did Poole and Back a couple of days ago to get a pop top hinge re-attached. So its had a bit of a run in already.
Re recovery, I was thinking about upgrading to Relay with my AA membership actually.
    Wish me luck!

Add 50% to the journey time. Then add some more for more breaks as you'll be at the wheel for much longer.
And don't buy any gauges for it, they'll just scare the hell out of you.
And check all the fuel lines regularly.
And get an engine bay fire extinguisher.
And some tools. And a karrimat to lie on underneath it.
    And a Bentley manual.

    Think that's about it.
    And enjoy!

  16. Hi from West Lancashire - don't try todo it in one go - the journey is part of the experience - stop and put the kettle on every 100 miles or 2 hours - have fun
