  1. Hi I am Dave and I am living in Germany at the minute, just moved here from Canada.
I am a Brit just based here for a few years, I own a 100% original 76 Westy (if you remove the toys) I bought her in Canada.
She has IMAG0419.jpg never been welded or drilled and still has all the original kit in great condition, I was lucky to find her.

  2. Welcome :)

    Nice van

  9. Thanks for the warm welcome, I do plan to come to some of the UK meets, I am about an hour from Hannover so plan to explore the German scene too.
We have 3 late bay's here in BFG all 3 came from Canada as we were all based there at the same time. 2 have been restored mine is OG, we all plan to meet up in the spring and head off to the VW museum.

You dont see bus's like yours in Germany anymore, all the locals went to the knackers yard years ago!
Just DONT go driving it in the winter time in all the salt and rubbish

  12. Hi Tony she wont be out in the winter, the previous owners used to keep her in a heated garage during the winter from new and I do the same.

I have completely insulated my garage, and now fixing up a dehumidifier plus greenhouse heater for the winter.
Her next 38 years is going to be in the luxury she deserves.
Where in the Fatherland are you, I was in Bavaria for 15 years.

  14. Hi David, nice looking westie, we're you in BATUS spent 2 1/2 years there.
As said previous some German cities, Dusseldorf Hannover and others operate the Umwelt Zone where we are not welcomed in the VW have a chat to the local Tuf testing centre see if you can get an exemption as an old timer, they can only say nein.
    Welcome aboard

  15. Yeah just come from BATUS to Germany, thanks for heads up I will go and ask.

  16. I was the ASM in Batus workshops from 87 - 89, Get hold of a Reisemobil Bordatlas, it gives you all of the Stellplatz and loads of campsites available in Germany and the rest of Europe, also gives you more info on Umwelt Zones, but try Tuf test point first.
Enjoy the van can highly recommend the Weser valley to Hameln,
