  1. Welcome, nice bus

  2. Sounds like a good plan :)

  3. Buying a second hand car in Spain is not a simple process.

After getting all of the paperwork together which took the seller and me a couple of weeks it took another 3 weeks for the Traffic department to put it into my name.

Patience is something you have to learn if you want to live in Spain, but the wait was well worth it. ;)

Five weeks after my original post and I finally have my lovely new bus home. I picked it up on Thursday evening and drove back nearly 200km with a big smile on my face whilst playing Russian roulette with the gears.

The drive back went very well, apart from cooking in the 40 degree heat, and the embarrassment every time I hit the brakes. They make the loudest squeal I have ever heard with the noise getting louder as I slowed.

I went through a number of small Spanish villages on my way home, and got the attention of everyone sat outside the numerous bars as I had to slow for speed bumps and mini roundabouts. Most embarrassing if a little amusing too.

Top of the to-do list - sort them brakes, and then enjoy the bus !!

    Cheers Colin

What year did it turn out to be?

  7. I nearly bought a camper from Spain ,but @Merlin Cat gazumped me...:D

Paperwork is just as bad en France..

  8. Stayed in picturesque little village in Andalucia 4/5 years back called Tollox, do you know it? About 30 mins from Marbella. Very quiet place, only a couple of other English speakers there at the time, I had to get by using some half forgotten French I learned at high school.... oh & some pointing!

We were about 5 hrs east of Marbella, up and around the coast and have only been their once. We once stayed at a place called mijas that was a lovely white village.
Even by the time we left Spain I still made myself understood by mainly facial expressions and gestures :) did you speak your French in a Spanish accent? :).

  10. Hi Baysearcher,

It seems to be a 72 model as it has a chassis number beginning 212222xx

My Spanish registration documents show it was registered in Jan '73. They also describe it as a kombi but according to the essential buyers guide, a chassis number starting with 21 is a panel van.

    Cheers Colin

  11. We are in the East about half way up between Valencia and Alicante. I haven't had much chance to explore Spain yet, but that can all change now - hopefully. We are in a mountain village and as I have only just moved here permanently after being based here and the UK for a couple of years, I can now start to learn the language properly. At the moment I try but I can see the locals holding back the laughter just before they launch into perfect English.

I've found though, if you smile and have a go, everyone here is very happy to help. ;)

Strange, certainly looks later than that and 21***** is definitely a panel van which your bus isn't...

  13. If you get stuck for spares there used to be a BBT in el campello. I often popped in when i lived there.
Also there is a few in a yard in aguis du busot (not spelt right) in the mountains nearby, the owner never wanted to sell when i asked though and one is a rhd sunroof.

  14. Thanks Matt, that's good to know.

  15. Yes, that confused me. I don't know too much about these things. This is my first VW but I did read a few threads here. I thought a give away for a panel van conversion was the window rubbers protruding. Mine windows are recessed but the chassis number would suggest otherwise. Could it be that someone just did a good job on the windows?

    Thanks Colin

rickyrooo1 Hanging round like a bad smell

more likely a ringer, the fuel filler should be a flap on a 73, the slider lock should be in the handle, the van has never been a panel van...... i'm sure there's more but i couldn't be bothered to listen to the seller waffle any more.

  17. Hi from West Lancashire - mine's a '73 - descriptions others give match mine.

  18. Looks solid. Bit odd about the era its supposed to be though

  19. Thanks all. As you say the key thing is that is solid enough. Needs some TLC but that's all part of the fun :)

  20. Hows the bus shaping up now ,have you had any adventures yet
