How would you heat this for winter use?

It has a sofa bed in now and we think it could come in handy for Guests at busy times. Electric wall heaters seem the obvious choice as there is a proper electric supply to it, but I have a log burner in the garage and love the thought of a real fire. Any thoughts on alternative ideas, or should we just stick with electric?

  2. I insulated ours it keeps it warm in winter n cooler in summer .

Oil filled radiator in ours - does the trick.

  4. Get some curtains up, just an electric should be fine, wouldn't trust a log burner in that :)

I don't think we will insulate it Barn. We both like the beach house style, but I know I will have to seal the joints before winter. Probably have to succumb to fully fitted carpet using foil backed insulting underlay though.

  6. In fact im not sure we had heating on in ours this winter , we have blinds too.

Are those windows single or double glazed?
My summerhouse had foil backed kingspan, 4" under the floor, 3" in the roof, 2" in the walls. 2kw convector heater.
It did have a big pitched/hipped roof, but result due to the single glazed windows was glowing ears and cold feet.

Single atm. I do have a friend who will make units for them and he was over for a drink yesterday. Cheap to change if I want them, but the blinds are supposed to be all singing all dancing insulating types, so mleave the glass until they are tested.

  17. Its a nice big summer house you have malc , i can see why you will want to use it all year round , ours is smaller and not much room coz its got a bit crowded till i make room in garage for stuff im trying to get rid of gradually:oops:

  18. those solar heaters are great for warming up large closed spaces fast , we use ours in awning in winter and its toasty very quick as long as neighbours dont keep leaving your flaps open :D

It's 20 x 10 Barn. I had the junk problem too. I bit the bullet and went to the tip a couple of times recently. I hate throwing stuff away.

Thermal blinds might be good, mine was an office and I just had those cheapy cane roll up things for shade.
