I am interested to find out what sort of blow there is supposed to be on our heating system.

Mine is working fine, gets hot etc and blows ok through the top vents, but if I close the totem for heat at my feet only then it seems quite a poor amount of blown air.

I know people are going to say " like a bee fart " etc, but I would like to try and gauge or rather compare my heater to someones who's works well. So how about if say I was to attach a ribbon to the botom air vents, would it blow it straight like a wind sock or would it just move it a bit. can you feel the warmth blowing on your feet from a distance away? I can feel the warmth in my sock feet but can't really feel it actually blowing out at a force.

Should I feel some blown air on tickover or not. does it get stronger at speed.

Soz for all the questions but I am not convince mine is absolutely right and wonder if I should have a decko at the rear fan shroud to make sure alls well up the back end.

    Cheers in advance. ykw!

  2. having all the air going to the foot vents seems to restrict the flow somewhat. assuming you dont have a blockage. I've made sure the flap on the totem is adjusted properly so I can have almost no hot air going up the the dash. for the best heat output i find that a mixture between feet and dash is best. Also if the kick board is not well fitted some of the hot air can get behind that

Cheers scote. If you put your hand on the bottom vents at tickover can you feel any air blowing on your hand?

  4. Even before I had the Propex fitted I added an auxilliary in line 12 v fan in my heater tube, with a 3 speed switch on it, and wow what a difference! Just seems the warm air needs that extra push to get it to the front. Someone clever could probably beef up the engine bay fan motor with a more powerful one, as it would appear the amount of heat created is not a problem, but getting it where you want it is!

  5. There should be a good old breeze blowing from the lower vents...

  6. Can you recall which fan/switch you used. Mines only single speed and it at the bottom of the totem = very noisy!

  7. Switch was just hanging around, hold up I'll find the fan......

So I presume from this yours is blowing at quite a force, If you were to tie a ribbon on the foot grill would it move it about quite a bit or not until the vans moving along?

  9. This was'nt the actual one, but virtually idendtical. Just cut the mounting tabs off, slide err in, and secure through your tube with self tappers. The plastic distorts quite easily when you screw through, causing the fan to scrape the sides, but 5 minutes of adjusting and it was perfect. drilled a hole for the cables, stuck in a grommet
    and siliconed for good measure.

  10. Funnily I was thinking about heating yesterday and came across this site which was very useful to me. From the above it sounds like you lot already know all this but I'm posting it on here just in case anyone else is drawn to this post and would benefit from it.

  11. On full blast, which is fairly noisy, the ribbon would be waving around like a placard at a Gay festival ! You could lessen the noise by mounting the fan at the engine end of the tube, but to be honest, the fast speed is only used for half a minute to give quick warm up, then I usually find the number one setting is more than adequate to keep thing warm, and thats all without any insulation around the main tube so far.

I have no fan. Thanks for the info though I would like to know more about the auxillery fan.

  15. while we're on this subject, is there a "best way" to demist the windscreen?

you have to get the heating system working mate, have a read of the thread Gazman just put up and you can see how it is supposed to work.

That is how it is supposed to work but the majority of us have had to do some serious replacement and mending to get it anywhere near working.

  17. @Poptop's next question is : " and just how large is the placard, and what would be the approximate reading on the Beaufort Scale"

Just tie your ribbon on it and be damned Man!;)

  18. The fan is mounted inside the main heater tube, at the back would be best to keep noise to a minimum, although on 1 and 2 it's minimal. The heater tube i've mounted using aluminium straps about 2" wide, at each end which are screwed or pop riveted in place, I cant remember which, so you've got access to the fan should you need it. Either way its much quieter , and a whole lot cheaper than fitting the much sought after ambulance fans!
