I'd imagine if Don had taken over the pictures in posts would be upside down. This sideways carry on is pants.
Upgrades , in my 'umble opinion , are never an actual improvement... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Nothing has changed as far as I’m aware, I haven’t been notified of any changes by admins. Taking a look to see what’s going on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There was some discussion in this thread: https://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/sideways-photos.88444/ It seems to be related to image dimensions. I suspect that when the server resizes large images down, it is not copying the EXIF data correctly, and loses the orientation flag
Is TLB still working with an old version of XenForo? Cursor positioning using Safari on an iPhone has been completely doolally for quite a while.
I'm not sure what would cause this, possibly something in Norris' comment about that EXIF data but I'm not sure why it would work fine if you drop the resolution down a bit, the weirdness only seems to happen with large resolution images. I'm doing a bit more research but general consensus at the moment is drop the res down and it'll be fine (from what I've read other users saying). This image is 4032x3024 @ 72dpi and it loaded fine.
I'm guessing that there is some code that looks at the uploaded image and if it's over a certain maximum resolution, chucks it through a processor to shrink it. The issue seems to be with the image shrinker process If the uploaded image is under the maximum resolution, that is the image that is displayed (original EXIF data intact). Otherwise it uses the shrunken image - with the cocked up orientation (original EXIF data not copied correctly to the shrunken image when it was created) ... at a guess
One thing that does seem confusing is the maximum file size on the upload dialog. It says maximum 3.1MB but still seems to allow much larger files. Perhaps that's a separate issue
This does work when added as a full image. There is still some weirdness with the attachment thumbnail though, which also loses orientation. Perhaps the file shrinker process is also being used to create the thumbnail image?
Is there actually a “file shrinker”? I can’t recall resizing or reduction in resolution taking place if I’ve tried to upload larger pics. Xenforo (assume that’s what is running at the server end) doesn’t seem to try resizing pics. It just complains about the overall file size.
I'm only guessing from the symptoms. I'm not familiar with Xenforo, it's just what makes sense in my software developer head
I know nothing about it either , but as that’s what’s at the “other end”, you’d assume that’s what would do any image handling/manipulation.
