Actually my van camping is also a happy place . Being down in Bloxham at dads was too, sadly dads place is gone now but the local village pub does B&B so I will be back!! (and I can visit the bench I secretly put the plaque on )
Lying hidden on a cold wet hill in the middle of nowhere, camo'd up, with the barrel of my 7.62mm sniper rifle poking through a couple tufts of grass, while I walk the scope's crosshair on to the bad guy I've been tasked with taking out of circulation. I can feel the pulse of my heart relayed in my index finger as it presses against the cold stamped steel of the ultra-sensitive two-stage trigger. I made that up. It's a single-stage trigger.
Had some issues a couple of years ago and needed just this. Literally just sitting in the bus for a bit lifted my spirits. The lakes are my go to place though. I’ve sat here many times looking at the view, listening to the sound of families playing in the water, listening to the water lap on the beach and stargazing at night. Watching the weather roll in at the far end of the lake… happy place but marks some significant moments in my life too!
No ... You just haven't found it or recognised it yet. Two kinds of happy place I reckon. The real thing, which has special qualities of its own, and the pretender, which is useful, but only as a distraction from all the "unhappy places".
My happy place. The beach, sand or Rocky, with warm water to swim/snorkel in. As few people around as possible.
