H30/31 pict carb question?

Discussion in 'How To' started by Dripstand, Oct 31, 2016.

  1. Hi again . I have a solex h30/31 pict carb and want to clarify what the various pipes are for and which is for the vacuum advance from the dizzy. Also what the other 3 are for or do I need to block them off?

Attached a couple of photos to try and make it easier to show what I'm taking about. Have tried googling but can't seem to find the answer or any pics.

    Thanks [IMG][IMG]

  2. I'm guessing you know this is a 1300 cc carb and being brosal not a good one !

  3. No I was not aware of that it came fitted with the engine (1600 1973) and assumed it was correct?

What would be the correct carb for this type and year of van?

Any recommendations for a new replacement?

Happy to replace with more suited carb if this is wrong.

    Thanks for info

  5. That...

Looks like you have an adapter plate on the manifold ,that has to come off as well ,the hole at the bottom of the carbe has to match the manifold...

Because of that you probably have a 1600 engine ,but it is difficult to know....

Have you a picture of the engine?

  6. As above personally I'd avoid new but find either a decent original or a decent refurbished original . It can be a bit of a mine field.

  7. Wow! Great advise thanks all.

Been looking on eBay and alike and prices vary from roughly £150-320 . Noticed they are sold as replicas . Does not seem to be many original vw carbs for sale and the ones I found are nearly the price of a new replica.

Is there anyone who has any experience of these replica ones or any that could be suggested that are better than others.

Anyone in selling a original refurbished one? Or Any companies that sell fully refurbished good as new originals that people have used or sent there own into to be overhauled that don't cost £300+ .

  8. I'd be tempted to put a wanted add on here or buy a second hand one ,or a cheeky 25 quid on this one...I like many owners half half a dozen in various conditions , so parts will be pretty easy to sorce

Have you got an engine number ?

some 1300 engine cases are used for 1600 ,but you might be lucky having an original 1600 engine...
