I agree it certainly is! The Gibson website has a section where you can enter the serial number and it will break its spec down inc year etc. There is, however, a very nice 1993 LP Classic in Cherry Burst on eBay (not mine btw)
My friends are heading down to see the collection (well, really they're going down to visit mother, but....!) at the weekend / next week - so hopefully when I see them the following weekend, I should have some different photos and more information on what's there. Quote: "Results for 90802489 This guitar was made on 20 March 1992 in Kalamazoo or Memphis for semi-hollow and custom shop models"
My latest Configuration. Note the 4 momentary switches I installed instead of 2 fs6 pedals, saving space and money. Internally wired to the expression pedal inputs,on the Boss RC 300. That midi assigns the targets on the boss 505, control which gives me 8 tracks of Looping bliss. (Sans embarrassing China fake fender guitar) .
1992, thats a good age! From what I have been reading, the 1990's models have a better sound than the later ones, dunno why, different electrics and pickups perhaps
It’s something to do with the wood.... density, tone etc. 1958/9 is considered the best (wood) year but there are others throughout history... I have a 2006 LP studio which is one of those good wood years I’m led to believe. Newer models are made with lower standard woods but with a maple cap to even out the tone.
For now I will have to do with my made in Japan Squier Stratocaster. Apparently it’s not a bad guitar as I bought it in the mid 80’s.
MIJ is good, debatably better than MIA. I also wouldn't be ashamed of a Squier - my main gigging bass is a (Indonesian!) Squier because I love it
