I'd been working up the ladder from what were always disappointing copy guitars from aged 13. Haha. I'd had a Telecaster copy, melody maker copy, a really rubbish Burns, a ton of £15-50 second hand shop novelty type guitars, a £200+ Les Paul copy then the real thing. When I got to the real thing there was Mark Knoffler twanging away on a Strat and it put me off and I bumped into the Les Paul while I could afford it aged 18. A perfect thing like perfect furniture, weighed a ton, did one thing very well I had it refretted with fat frets but somehow it was just too refined for my taste. and the sound too thick. A strat is too thin. My Jag was just right for me, mellow like the Les Paul, expressive like a Strat.

That said, I've played many 70's Strats and they were all better than this thing I have now. Someone tried to give me one once but I felt bad and said no! He lent it to someone else who flippin sold it! Gah! What was different was I could play like a clumsy fool on the 70's ones (and the Jaguar) and sound good, this one I have to put much more effort into my playing to make it sound as nice even with a massive action and or/pickups backed off. It's kind of sensitive.

Keep playing the same thing with the electric so I did a couple of years classical lessons EB91F6BF-7329-4AC2-BFAF-B167E62DA384.jpeg - forcing myself to read music, so enables me to play a broader repertoire. I’m not very good though!

  4. haha yeah tbh even that ac15 is pretty loud. I’ve always absolutely loved the look of the SG, and first got an epiphone sg when I was a teenager. I initially learnt to play on a classical so everything else has always seemed easier than that!

I just listed my LP, mixed feelings I must say. I just cleaned it up and restrung it and it is very nice. Maybe I should keep it but it just sits there not getting played!

I'm on the lookout for an early 60's Jaguar if anyone has one they want to part with. :)

My Nashville tele at last year's charity gig I play at back in my hometown. I've started trying to put aside a little more time to practice as it's always a bit of a mad rush for me to practice for that gig!

I'm not sure I qualify to post here as I've just started, but some of you may be aware a couple of months ago, I managed to save a guitar from being crushed at our local tip , and since then I've been learning how to hold it (classical style) and a learn few notes, chords and tunes...I'm having great fun and learning more respect for those who can play  IMG_20230727_155722749.jpg IMG_20230727_153020981.jpg
Will I carry on, I'm not sure yet but so far so good.

I bought one for a fiver from the local boot sale. A set of strings costs more than that. I love a nylon string guitar with it's wide fret board, you don't have to play classical on them, I sometimes record with a mic and apply a ton of distortion afterwards - sounds great.
The frets on mine are too sharp though, they mangle the strings quite quickly so next time I see a cheap one I'll pay more attention to that.

I went for lesson a few years back and discovered how hard it is to play. 99% practice which I didn’t do:(
Mam give me her guitar which is older than me. The teacher loved it. He made it sound great.

Couple of pics up you can see mine. I’m loving slowly going through the Trinity Classical guitar grade books. Big fat neck to pin down the notes and tunes that I’d never play if the music wasn’t in front of me. One min your playing 20 century, next your in 16th century. Been doing for a couple of years and it’s the most enjoyable instrument learning experience to date

I’m not really a guitar player as yet as I’ve not been learning long. I am, however, a guitar owner. This is a 3/4 size Epiphone bass :)

I've just made an offer on this rather nice Fender VI bass/baritone guitar.
